Do you pull for SEC teams? (Merged . . . again and again)

alright, just know that it doesn't help tennessee in anyway. I dunno about you guys but I dont pull for teams i hate regardless of the circumstances. But you're right, I can't tell you who to pull for and I shouldn't have said that I just got angry at the reasons you guys gave for going gator. However, telling me i cant have a 2nd favorite team is equally wrong and I love Notre Dame football, but I like Tennessee more.

Ok, you just sound bitter to me. Notre Dame beats Tennessee and takes alotta recruits, if I didn't have a family history with them i probably would hate them too, I don't blame you. But then again maybe thats not a problem on that island.

We haven't lost any outstanding recruits to them, so not sure where you're going with that. Being in Hawaii has nothing to do with it.

Well, if Florida wins we'll have to get used to these statements from the media:
"The better team didn't win"
"If they played 10 times OSU would win 9, it just didn't happen today."
excuse after excuse after excuse

I don't know about that. For one thing, I think it depends on how the game goes. If Florida wins, as long as they do it based on the two things everyone does give them credit for -- speed and defense -- then the media will probably adore them for it (because it proved them -- the media-- right).

It only proves that given enough time to devise a plan. Any coach, especially one as good as Meyer, can pull of an upset.

No one gave OSU a chance in hell against Miami and look what happend.

All I have to say is screw gators, go Buckeyes.

The one legimate thing Lou Holtz has ever said was about ten days ago when he made a remark that it is very, very difficult to predict bowl games, especially the late ones, because the teams are off for so long. Paraphrasing, he said "Forget it. The team that shows up in January is simply nothing like the team that you are used to seeing. They will be totally different by then."

I am with you HawaiiVol. I dang sure don't need anyone telling me which team to root for, so I can be a Vol fan. Ridiculous statement. I will pull for the Gators, and every team we have played that made a bowl game, especially SEC teams. Blaker, if you think that makes me less of a Vol, you are sadly mistaken.

I agree. I'm rooting for UT, LSU, Auburn, Arky, even FSU.

I would NEVER root for an OOC school against an SEC school unless it affects TN's chances for a NC. TN is a member of the greatest conference in college football and I want it to stay that way. I would like to know how many TN fans that would never root for FL live in TN. TN is all SEC. I live in upstate SC and there's a lot of ACC fans here (the day SC beat Clemson, GA beat GT and FL beat FSU was GREAT). I constantly hear about how the SEC is overrated by them and an OSU buddy of mine. The most important game to me besides the TN/PSU game is the FL/OSU game. Florida MUST win this game to shutup my OSU buddy and the rest of the world about how MI is the true #2 team. Give me a break and cry me a river. LawGator, I'm pulling for you guys big time. Good luck. I've already talked trash about FL's defense so I hope all goes well. Personally, I think OSU and the Big 2 are in for a shock. FL's no slouch and they can (and I feel they will) beat OSU. Just get the ball to Harvin and play some SERIOUS D.

:salute:

other than the obnoxious fan base, the Gators under Meyer aren't the same loathsome Gators under Spurrier. I don't know how to explain that further, but I find it nearly impossible to not like, or at least respect, UF now (other than Leak's crybaby tendencies when Tebow is in the game).

I'd like to see Leak taken out of the game early and Tebow make TOSU's defense look like PeeWee leaguers.

Thanks, MG. It does seem like this team is a bit more humble than successful Gator teams of the past. I think Meyer has something to do with that.

Hey, you never know. Say a recruit is torn between Tennessee and, oh, Michigan. That recruit could be watching the bowl games. If the SEC does well and proves they're a dominant conference, that recruit could say, "well, I want to play in THAT conference. I want to get THAT kind of exposure." So, technically, SEC wins in bowl games COULD help TN. One thing is for sure. An OSU win only helps the Big 2, er, 10. Also, I think I'd have an easier time proving that you aren't a TN fan if you don't root for the SEC teams in bowl games than vice versa.

F the Gators. I'll be actively supporting Ohio State in this one. While we're on the subject, I wouldn't mind seeing Jim Laurinaitis pull a Joe Theisman/Lawrence Taylor on a certain freshman QB.

No one actually goes through florida's schedule when they win and say....oh well Tennessee is even better than we thought! Vanderbilt only lost by a few! they must be more lethal than we thought! Trust me guys, if they win that trophy will have University of Florida on it. What it won't have is UT, UK, Vandy, Auburn etc.

Well i've been born and bred to hate other SEC schools, if you hate someone, you dont want to see them succeed. The fact that we should have beaten them also leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Yep, you are correct. If the Buckeyes win the rest of the media outside the SEC will say "see the SEC is over-rated and Michigan should have played the Buckeyes."....The only reason I want the Gators to win is to shut my 900+ co-workers up who come to work everyday wearing their Notre Dame, Michigan and Purdue crap claiming how great the Big Ten and Notre Dame are. Heck, I'm even wanting LSU to dog the Irish.

I will be pulling for the Gators because I can't stand 3 teams in this country with a passion Ohio State, Southern Cal, and Bama...I hope Florida wins to show the country that the BEST football is played in the SEC hands down

I just don't see how an Ohio State victory would diminish the SEC in any way. It would only validate Ohio State as the consensus #1 from the pre-season to the end of the season.

I also doubt that Florida will surrender 40+ points and 500+ yards of total offense as an apparently "deserving" team did to Ohio State.

that's really sad :shakehead:
That play was legendary. I only root for one cfb team, period. Knowing that UF is one of the the major hurdles to UT winning another SEC C-ship, and that Tebow is a major component to their season, I don't feel the least bit bad about it. I'm not wishing for it but I sure won't feel bad if it happens.

That is wrong to a level I have trouble comprehending.

Have you heard/read the rumours that a jet left Tuscaloosa last night, landed at Miami for a little over 30 minutes, and returned directly to Tuscaloosa?
Yes, that sounds like one of the roughly 18,799 ridiculous Saban/Alabama rumors I have heard in the last 3 weeks.
