Bleak future/Time to put the black curtains back up/woe unto us (merged)

Maybe if they moved the concession stands closer to the end seating areas, we could put the old popcorn stuffers there and get the students to the sidelines.

Tennessee is a football school. No doubt about it. If a new coach comes in and puts an exciting team on the court and wins, people will show up. If we're a bottom feeder in the conference, people will find other ways to spend their entertainment dollar.

TN athletic office announced today a new emblem for TN Basketball:

Yep.That's the way it works.

But some will label those that dont like seeing non winning/non entertaining bb as university of Pearl fans.

I get so sick of this stupid crap. If you don't want the curtains to come back, keep going to the freaking games.

i don't think that the OP was saying he wants the black curtains back, however i believe a lot of ppl are going to be pissed and protest by not going to games

And when we suck at football people stop going to games, see Fulmer's last season, particularly the 'Bama game.

How do you know we won't be winning? Just another soothsayer on the pro Pearl side.

I dont KNOW...I do know we win with Bruce as our coach.I know we sucked for 5 years before Bruce.Coach Green won alot but we got rid of him cause we feard ncaa problems..HA!..Before Green we had the Houston/Oneil years...see a pattern?

Fact is you have to win in any sport to have strong fan support. Guess that makes us only a football school.

even Fulmers last game was sad, it seemed like only half the stadium was full

That wasn't just something that happened over night.

Fans couldn't care less if the team is coached by Bruce Pearl or Curtis Lemay as long as they are winning.

agreed, however i think a lot of fans like Pearl because he made basketball relevant at Tennessee

Tennessee Football is like Cubs baseball. People have shown up for games the last three seasons with a crappy product on the field.

Tennessee just hasn't sustained enough men's basketball success to build a strong base.

Tennessee was relevant in basketball under Jerry Green, and it wasn't that long ago. Fans like Pearl because they bought his salesman schtick. The support you're seeing from UT fans for him now is a measure of how good a job he did selling himself.

Can't disagree that fan support is stronger for football. However, we did not have sell-outs for most football games when we have a crappy product on the field.

Agree. But the basketball team won't get near 80% capacity with a .500 team.
