Trooper and former players recruiting against vols?

The only violation that I could possibly see would be if Trooper contacted Gabe the night before NSD(not sure if I am correct with this)

I would guess all parties involved would say Gabe contacted TT. I think that's allowed

Are you really surprised the NCAA doesn't have provisions for this sort of situation? I can't imagine it has been an issue very often in the past, if ever.

If this is true, it's pretty disappointing, but I can't say I'm all that surprised. Wasn't GJ quoted last year with some "Woe is me, what did I ever do to deserve all this?" sort of comments? I can certainly see why he might have some resentment and hard feelings towards UT, but actively recruiting against your school is still pretty low. Again though, this is all speculation right now, correct?

Yes, it is speculation right now. Nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to these kids or the NCAA.

coaches can call kids once from midnight Saturday through NSD. Kids can call coaches as many times as they want.

Wow-kind of at a loss with this. What are people saying GJ said about TN? Did he badmouth the program, the current staff, administration, or all of it in general?

If this is true does he instantly become the biggest Persona Non Grata in UT history from a former player standpoint?

I can understand loyalty to a coach, but I can't imagine that ever trumping loyalty to the University. Do you think Peyton is telling recruits to go to Duke because of Cutcliffe?

If a former VOL is doing that - then cut him off. No access to games, etc. Good riddens.

I understand that, but it's a no-no for former players to contact recruits.

I think he is still on scholarship through the spring semester. doubt he is a "former player" yet.

And if he is, violation would be on UT since he is a "former UT Player" calling a recruit. What he says is not the issue. the act of calling is.

I think if Cut wanted Peyton to talk to a recruit about Duke, Peyton would do so in a heartbeat. If we were recruiting the same kid? Doubt he would but I'm sure he talks to recruits about Duke.

Good point. So we would lose the recruit and get the violation? Sounds about right for UT football

I understood that assistant coaches were mercenaries, but its gotten to the point that players have no loyalties either. Would be interested if any of the local media have gotten wind of this and could interview GJ about getting ready for the draft and perhaps pop this question about these accusations.

Only thing that would make this whole situation that much more awesome

That's a good point. This GJ thing is different than Peyton helping Cutcliffe, UT and Duke rarely chase the same recruits or meet on the field, UT and AU is a different story though.

So, what happens when GJ shows up to workout during Tennessee's pro-day for NFL scouts?

He has to have one since he was not invited to the combine.

What better way to slap your program you clearly have a grudge with...and at the right time with all of the focus from NCAA. This puts Dooley under the spotlight which up to this point has been all on Kiffin's era.

Hubbs said it has been indicated to him that there were a couple players who did this. Anyone have an idea who the other could be?
