I am going to have a lot of free time coming up soon, and since black Friday is coming what other time to buy a PS3 or Xbox 360, I haven't been in the gaming community in a long time and I know nothing about these 2 consoles and I was wondering if my fellow vol brothers could help me decided.

First let me tell you about myself,
1. I am not a hard core gamer so I will not be playing a lot but I am going to need something to keep my mind off something really soon.
2. I like the fact that ps3 has blue ray, since both me and my father want to buy a blue ray in the future, but is it a sucky version of the driver?
3. I will only buy xbox360 or ps3 bc I love playing online video games, ( which has the better online games and community?)
4. I hate the fact that you have to pay to play for xbox and I love that ps3 is free, but that makes me believe that the online experience for xbox will have more support and overall better online experience.

5. anyone know where i can get a better deal on a console other than black friday?

360 beats PS3's online by 100 times. Ask anyone with both consoles and you will get the same response 9/10 times.

If online gameplay is a big factor, then it's 360 hands down. I don't see how 7 bucks a month for what you get for Live is such a burden. Now with the fact you can watch live out of market sporting events on the box it's really a no brainer.

I don't think you could go wrong either way to be honest. If you are already wanting a blue ray player and a gaming console then the PS3 would be a good fit. Yes, the playstation network is free and the fact that you have already mentioned you aren't a hard core gamer suggest there isn't much of a need to pay for anything more than you have to. Besides, if you haven't played either one online you aren't going to know the difference anyway....

Which new system is it in the current commercials that can scan and read your body movements and incorporate those movements instantly into the game?

When did PS3 get decent online community features? When did it stream ESPN 3? When did it get exclusive dlc and releases for major titles years in advance?

He didn't ask for those things.

Both systems have pluses and minuses. The PS3 sounds like it best fits his needs.

he certainly seemed to want a great multiplayer platform.

And the 360 is cheaper, which was a concern.

I listed the other things because in my mind they help make up for a lack of a blue ray player.

In any event, I'm not going to get pulled into a stupid console fight. You can recommend an atari for all I care. I was just giving him my opinion on what he should get.

If you have friends that play online, get what the majority of them have. You don't want to be stuck with one console, while all of your friends are playing on the other.

Ps3 has blu ray yes, but I wouldn't want it as a designated player its not a high end drive.

The 360 is $49.99 a year and the Ps3 is Free. You get what you pay for, the 360 has a better organized online experience

360 has kinect= good workout, Ps3- move? lol a ripoff of the wii

360 has ESPN3!

The controller on the xbox is a much better fit for a man's hand, I hate the playstation's small controller, however you can buy aftermarket ones that are almost exactly like Xbox's.

Ps3 has God of War

360 has Halo and Gears of War

360-5
Ps3-2

I'm not biased, I have a 360 and my roomate has an Ps3, we play the 360 95% of the time. Its just a better system, the Ps3 has a LITTLE better graphics but not really enough to tell, really shows on God of War 3. FWIW we bought Call of Duty black ops for the 360. Hope that helps

Thanks for all the suggestions, I think I might just flip a coin on Friday lol. I like the fact that xbox can steam online sport games, but i use espn3 for that anyways. I also like the fact that ps has blue ray which is awesome. I was wondering out of the gaming community here on vn which consoles do you all play more ps3 or xbox? That might sway my influence because I am going to need some online buddies =)

Ps: xbox is only $7 a month which is only 1 hr a week a day which is nothing lol.

My sons both have 360's. They've each returned units (total of 3) for the RROD. I haven't had a problem with my PS3.

The Blu-ray quality is excellent.

If online gaming with friends is the priority, do what utvol042 suggested and get what they have.

I think there's more 360 players, but there's quite a few PS3 players as well. You could check the gamer tag list to find out for sure...

Guy doesn't sound like he's a hardcore gamer though....I don't think he's someone who'll say be up all night playing Halo. He might just want system tech

(also I'm pretty sure the ps3 gets a ton of exclusive dlc also; only thing that doesn't have that at this point's the wii)

The new xboxs are greatly improved from the earlier falcon chips. This isn't really an issue anymore. The ps3 has also had a problem with ylod, not to te extent the old 360's had, but this isn't the case anymore.
