I'm proud of the team for the effort they played with yesterday and I do believe that we are not that far away from getting back to Tennessee football but we are going to continue to lose games as long as Simms can only make 1 read.

He calls the play in the huddle and from the time the ball is snapped he looks at his primary receiver throughout his entire route. Opposing Safeties and Corners LOVE Matt Simms. NO RUSHING YARDS? thats because the Defense can stack the box when they know Simms is going to broadcast who he is throwing to before his second step in his drop. Until he fixes this our offense is going to struggle.

Another QB topic? What part of, "we have nothing else behind him" don't you understand?

When did you see me state in my post that we did? I am simply stating what is holding him and our offense back from being successful.

Simms just isn't comfortable in this system yet.
He'll get better with game experience and and some receivers to step up. I was glad to see Rogers and Hunter get some game time. We just don't have all the pieces in place yet. He was being hurried throughout the game but when he did have time he just couldn't make the crucial throws. He is our QB right now and we will probably have to ride this horse for now.
He'll get better, just will take some time.
GO VOLS!

did we not learn anything at all from last year? Simms is gonna be our starter, and it does no good to continue and bash him. he has went up against 2 good defenses and he struggled at times. good defeneses tend to do that. One thing I was really happy with was Simms ability to stay alive in the pocket. We got some big plays yesterday due to that fact. We really need to just chill out and see what happens. next week is a game to build confidence for the rest of the year.

It's not Simms that is the problem with the one reads. It's two issues...

1. Inexperieinced O-Line
2. Depth at WR

We have two freshman, and a sophomore backing up the two seniors on the team for WR. It's not like we have a plethora of depth and experience with the system that's in place.

Simms is not the issue? Get real! It was Da'Rick's fault that Simms threw the INT in the endzone? If not, maybe James' fault then? I don't think so. Simms lacks the talent to play in the SEC. An inexperienced O-Line and lack of experienced WRs is not the reason Simms is a horrific QB. I am finally fed up. Simms gave away 7 points with his endzone INT and his 2nd INT led to a UF TD (we lost by 2 TDS). Both INTs were laid into the defenders hands. Might as well get Bray in there. He is our future. Let him learn while we lose at least.

Bray is transferring after this year. He is telling it all over school. Guess after Simms' 2 years we will be stuck with the transferr from La Tech, well if he dont leave/

I've been thinking the same thing.

I heard on the radio Sims said they are trying to keep the offense simple right now so he will only have 2-3 reads on one side of the field at a time. So to us in the stands/couches it looks like he is staring down one guy when in fact all his other reads are on the same side.

Our offensive scheme for success is there. There have been missed open receivers in every game so far.

Currently its the hand we've been dealt. We are going to have to hope that as the team grows we will see Crompton like improvement as the season goes on.

Looks like folks are bit misinformed about this topic. Simms, in a recent interview, stated that he's been CLEARLY INSTRUCTED to limit his reads to one side of the field only. He's not got the entire field to work with and if he tries to do that, Chaney will be all over him. He's doing what he's told. No explanation was given and none should be expected although it really doesn't take a football guru to see that there are several reasons for something like this.....not the least of which is a young and limited OL. Really, fans need to check themselves before the go off the deep end on kids, coaches and schemes. No one knows what these players and units are capable of better than the coaches. The next couple of years...at least...are going to be painful. Foolish to expect this team to go out and look like the New Orleans Saints.

How can a QB even play up to what many perceive is a limited potential, if he is playing off of his rump most plays?? Did you see him move the pocket when he threw a rope of Moore for a TD?? Did you see the throw where he was under pressure from the beginning and hit Hunter in the endzone on the numbers?? Look, the kid maybe limited, but he's even more so with a line that doesn't block very well right now, and inexperienced WRs that don't know the playbook. Please, stop slamming a kid that can't help what he has to play with. The coaches know this, the players know this, and most of the halfway educated fans know this. Simms will improve, and in fact, from last week to this week, I saw a better QB on the field. How many basically freshman QBs have come in a played successfully against 2 Top 10 opponents back to back?? I don't know of one, do you??

Wow. Nice post. But I think you may have most people on here scratching their head since this makes sense.

So be it! I don't think this coaching staff would put up with his mouth if that was true. If Bray wants to play he has to beat Simms in practice. The result is obvious!

Complete BS. I have talked with Tyler and his father after every game this year (his father and mine know each other) and he is not considering transferring right now at all. You only have 30-something posts......please dont use the future ones to spread BS made up rumors.

Do you really think the TD to Hunter was his only read on 4th and 6? Come ON!!! There was a busted coverage and Simms slid to his right in the pocket after presseure and saw Huter open because he raised his hand. Plus poor kid was running for his life all night. Also on the interception that led to the go up by 14 TD the DB was quoted as saying that they studied it in the film room and he new the route Moore was gonna run before the snap and jumped it. You know sometimes other teams player just make good plays.

I sure am glad there were not message boards when Peyton was here. I mean he never threw a pick against FL!!!! I don't think he would have made it. We would have heard all the bring in SUGGS!!!

tough life for anyone living near Ohio, let alone Columbus, Buckeye fans are truly nutz...:eek:lol: I was at a sportsbar in Ohio when they lost the championship to Florida, which I was dumb enough to let it be known I wanted the SEC to show them how the game is played.
