World Cup Soccer........Boring as H*ll

But if Ghana and Germany tie that puts Ghana with 5pts. Germany with 4 points. And you have to believe that Serbia will beat an Australian team a man short.

Serbia 6pts
Ghana 5pts
Germany goes home and we can get revenge on Ghana for 06.

The Aussies aren't a man short unless someone already manager to get a red.

However, in the event of a tie we get Germany if anything but a Serbian win or Australian blowout happen.

Australia isn't a man down, don't know what he's talking about.

I love how this thread has been taken over.

Right. I read this wrong from cnnsi...

Australia still has faint hopes of advancing, with a win coupled by a victory from Ghana as the most likely scenario. The Socceroos, though, will play this match without suspended Harry Kewell and Craig Moore.

They are not a man down, they are just missing a couple guys. But they get their star back so no big deal. This thread is still okay....

Yet most Americans have zero problem watching baseball. It seems to me like most of the people that have this mindset for soccer are conformists. It's cool to join the group that constantly responds to the sport with, "you're boring, my country doesn't care about you".

Not for me. Baseball has got to be the most boring sport to watch, especially on tv, besides golf.

Baseball is far and away the most boring sport to watch on television. And it really isn't even our national pastime anymore anyway. Football is far and away the most popular sport in our country now. I would much rather watch any golf tournament over baseball any time, any place.

Popularity and pastime are two different things.

Does the same apply to impoverished, shoe-less, South Americans?

one look at the world cup fans tells you that this argument that americans are too unsophisticated to understand soccer is a garbage argument.

it's like i said a few days ago, this type of attitude about "outsider sports" exists all over the place. people just naturally tend to be less open to sports that aren't marketed to them as much in their home country. europe and the rest of the world's outlook about our country's sports is just as bad as america's opinion of soccer.

I'm a little lost here. I'm in complete agreement with your theory on these countries acting elitist towards the US and I'll commonly point to the racism openly expressed in soccer stadiums all over Europe as evidence of their hypocriscy. I didn't even watch the link you provided but I'd assume it includes things like throwing banannas and making monkey noises at black players, or facist salutes in the stands, etc. However, what exactly does that have to do with the game itself?

it has to do with this theory that many euros and elitist americans have that americans are too stupid or unsophisticated to understand and enjoy soccer.

it has nothing to do with people being unsophisticated and stupid IMO......just that alot of people here are close minded about anything outside the culture.

much of america grows up playing soccer. so how are we close minded about soccer? i've tried to watch many a soccer match and i find it extremely boring. i understand the rules (i coached soccer at the HS level as a volunteer for a couple of years). Football and basketball are vastly more entertaining IMO. you can feel free to disagree, but don't tell me I don't like it because i can't understand it or am close minded. and please don't explain how the rest of the world loves it. the rest of the world loves madonna techno remixes too. it's not relavant. adn the rest of the world is not more open to new things any more than the americans are.

I always hear non soccer fans complain about soccer fans taking an elitist attitude towards those that criticize the sport but I never actually see it happen. Look at the arguments that have taken place in here, most have been debating a lack of knowledge of the rules leading to a lack of understanding in strategy and appreciation for things in the game other than a goal.

I haven't read every post but I haven't seen much elitism thrown around.
