Do you think Fulmer would have turned it around if given a few more years?

We are heading into another rebuilding year and things aren't going to be pretty for a few more years. Not long term, but do you think we would be in better shape today and even next year if we still had Fulmer? It's impossible to tell, but what are your opinions?

Absolutely not.

It is FAR from impossible to tell. Fulmer should've been gone after the 2005 season.

This is the reason that 2010 will be a rebuilding year.

My take is that Fulmer was a victim of luck. His brightest spot was because of a kid named Manning who helped him bring in some good talent to make one run at a national championship. When that talent went down hill we saw what kind of coach and administrator Fulmer was. He made some horrible choices in assistants. Stephens, McCorvey, Marshall, Washington, etc. And Cutcliff made him look good.

The reason that I say that Fulmer was a victim of luck is because that kid named Manning came to UT because of his father's association with Bobby Scott. Fulmer just happened to be the coach at the time. Scott is as orange blooded as they come and would have sold Peyton on UT regardless of who the coach was.

Very good points.

If we are taking about his acting career I say yes and he's still working on it. Change is tough but at a certain point you move on!

You really think Tim Priest knew more about player injuries than Kiffin?

I know he did. Because Tim Priest said Lincoln was injured in pre-game, said he watched him during the warm-ups and said he wasn't right. Presciently, Priest then said, "I hope this doesn't come down to a field goal."

Kiffin, in the post-game presser said about Lincoln's injury, "He didn't know" no one told him, etc.

What was Phil going to turn around?

It sure as Hell wasn't going to be the football program.

But, his love for self was much greater than his fondness for U.T. He began to speak about personal goals he wanted to attain, when he was given the last extension, meaning 200 wins and breaking Neyland's overall wins record. He may have been fond of U.T., but most fond of himself.

This!

Why do you think he was fired? His termination should answer your question.
