Tennessee under NCAA investigation over use of recruiting hostesses

Just read that the game that the hostesses went to was on September 25th. Miller and Willis committed on the 13th of September. That should go a long way.

There is a lot of question, into where the NYT got their info.

When did the NCAA eliminate hostesses? I have seen them at UT, and other schools for years.

As far as Bryce Brown, Im not sure where Tony B. is going with that. UT did nothing wrong in his recruitment, nor did Brown. The issue was with Butler, not his recruitment.
Matter of fact, they already investigated that and come back clear. Not sure where Tony is going with that one either

Did Hamilton address the media this afternoon?

I had heard he was.

I saw the statement from UT earlier, was that it?

Wes Rucker just reported that all of the hostesses that went to the game are saying it was their idea to go to the game.

Check your publish dates sir, really don't think there is a connection there....JMO

Obviously they've been talking to the players for a few days now and likely before the SEC Championship Game. I think that was his point. He's saying if Urban knew about it, that would have prompted the prolonged smile on his part when asked about Kiffin. Sort of the "I know something you don't" thing.

I could see that and it wouldn't surprise me...I wasn't being a smart aleck towards him by any means, didn't mean to come off that way, but if that's the case it will add fuel to a renewed rivalry, especially if it comes to be false, I don't think Urban turned us in though, he hates Lane but I really don't think he turned us in, he should be busy worrying about not letting Cincinatti do to them what Utah done to Bama last year

I wish you guys could see the number of linkbacks to this thread. We are apparently incredibly compelling.

As a South Carolina fan, I have to say it smells fishy to me that a major public media installation is announcing that the NCAA is approaching people directly and asking questions concerning a specific school's recruiting practices after the regular season and before signing day. It also seems to target that particular university (in this case, the Vols) as a disruptive force to recruiting efforts. I dunno, if I was Lane Kiffin, I'd be pretty PO'd about all this going on when it is, and I hope that in the next day or two, for the sake of the Vols, that the university issues a few PR statements for damage control before this ludicrous attack is allowed to spin out of control more than it already has. Obviously someone is talking somewhere andthey've caused a pretty decent hiccup in the state of things.

Not that I like the Vols or anything... I hate pretty much anything Orange. But jeeze. This stands out as a personal or targeted attack even to me. Perhaps one of the employees that's recently left decided to stir some stuff up..

Thanks for being decent.

This is simple retaliation toward Lane Kiffin and the University. It is TIME to EXPOSE the NCAA for what it really is.
The NCAA talks a good game about keeping recruiting fair but turn around and do this is totally WRONG>

+1,000,000.

We should be hiring lawyers right now because this is a blatant sabotage attempt and short of them finding evidence of something far beyond a sign held up, I doubt seriously any court would find in favor of the NCAA questioning recruits less than two months before signing day, about a sign held up by employees of the admissions office. I'm no lawyer but this looks pretty damn actionable to me.

Indeed, the publish date is the main reason I went back and looked up the GoVolsXtra link. :salute:

My bad on missing the connection, been a long busy night at work...After putting the two together though, I really don't think that there would be anything between the two because that is Urbie's typical douche bag response....But again that's JMO

I don't think anything is going to come of it. I don't think Kiffin sent those girls down there and they've professed that they were never told to go to any high school football game.

Not only that but they went after the kids had already committed! Maybe one of the girls had a crush on one of the guys? Which would obviously be a more legal issue than an NCAA probe.

What's bad for us is that they could have been acting as representatives on the school. But I think that could only be proven if they were funded for the visit. If they went on their own money, made their own signs and were never told to do so - I think we're in the clear. However, it's likely we'll see stricter rules imposed on schools involving hostesses.

Gotcha. I don't think he'll be directly connected, but the potential is there for a few calls having been made behind the scenes to get the ball rolling.
