Tennessee under NCAA investigation over use of recruiting hostesses

This is outrageous. I knew a few hostesses and they are just glorified tour guides. A couple did end up dating football players. but that's not against the rules

This really doesn't look good for you guys. I don't know the true severity of the problem but the perception of what was happening is going to stick like glue. I feel Kiffin made many enemies from the get go. Remember the old saying that " the squeaky wheel gets the oil" well you can add "its also the first one to be replaced" . Mostly UT has class in everything it does. I wonder about casting your loyalties so quickly behind someone of Kiffins reputation....but then again, he is your coach....

Do us all a favor and go play in traffic

what exactly is kiffin's reputation? he's a guy that didn't get along well with al davis? or that he was a part of a couple NC's at USC?

you're insinuating that the guy has a reputation for cheating and you're wrong.

How does this not look good for us? Proving that any of the coaches had something to do with this will be near impossible. And that credit card rumor is about as big of a lie as they make them.

It is only 179.3 mile from Knoxville to Duncan but hey 200miles sounds better in a story. A group of college students driving 200 miles to a HS ballgame thats not so odd. A couple of friends of I drove from Knoxville to Pennsylvania to get to get beer one night. It is called a 'Road Trip" and is a frequent occurance among college students. TN has developed a couple of good recruting classes and other coaches are running scared. These recruits would rather play for a team that runs a pro style game and prepares them for the next level.

This will all blow over soon---if anything, it's a minor, secondary violation and will not impact anything. Move along now.

i had a couple of friends leave the strip at 3:00 am and drive straight to gainesville to meet up with some chicks. road trips are the greatest.

I drove to Tunica one time in the middle of the night to gamble while I was attending UT, I guess NYT would find it odd that I would take that long of a trip.

Had some friends when I lived in Morrill Hall that disappeared for a few days, they took a road trip to Mexico, was that odd? I didn't think so at the time.

If you're bored and you don't have anything going on class wise, why wouldn't you take a trip, couple of friends going to a football game, big deal.

I don't see the big deal about the distance. Its only 200 miles. You can travel that in 2 hrs

it takes me 2 1/2 to get to knoxville, and duncan is another 40 mins from my house so it's at least 3 hrs. I don't see the problem they held up a sign or a hot girl shows a kid around campus. It's not like they are hookers

If you're reading this Mr. New York Times/ESPN writer, my cousin, a five-star recruit who I will not name, was offered 50,000 dollars in cash by Urban Meyer himself to commit to the University of Florida. You may now write your article and inform the NCAA that Florida is cheating. Oh, and Steve Spurrier does it too. That is all.

I 100% believe that since it's on a message board. You will be subpoenaed by the NYT shortly

That is what I am hoping for. By the way, do any of you think that if it had been the male members of Orange Pride that this would not be as big as it is?

Urban said my twitch was fast enough for about 20,000.. I didn't want to come forward.. But now I think I have too.. He also touched me inappropiately..... I'm still scarred..

Chris Lowe reported on espn that UT and staff knew about this "for weeks", and that it didn't catch them off guard at all.

if they new and weren't caught off guard then they must know whats going on and have full confidence that there aren't any real issues here.

I seriously doubt they'd be out on the road recruiting knowing that they were in hot water. This is all a bunch of rumors blown up into a credible story. I am not buying it.

do ya have to go through mts or side roads?

I'm confused. Are the hostesses an all-female group? I thought they were part of a coed group called the Orange Pride, who do tours, admissions events, etc. for both athletes and 'regular' prospective students.

Why do I ask that?

If the group was all (and only) women, and if the group only worked - as the article alleges - for the "hourly for the football office" - that would be a violation of NCAA regulations.

In 2004, because of the high-profile scandal/alleged rape involving the University of Colorado's football team, hostesses, and recruits, plus later allegations of impropriety at Arizona State and Oregon, the NCAA changed the regulations about hostesses.

No longer could 'host' groups be single-sex (read: all women) and they had to either be student-athletes themselves or they could be tour guides (etc) but in that case they had to provide tours and assistance to non-student athletes as well. Bama got rid of its Bama Belles, Texas redid its group, etc.

NCAAFB Fanhouse article author was just confused, right? B/c otherwise the very group's composition is a violation (which I am not saying it is -- I was under the impression the group was now coed, did other admissions work too, etc., so it didn't violate the NCAA regs).

this is slander if you made it up. if it is true, you had better tell your cousin to report this, as he would be in hot water for covering it up. this would be one of the biggest scandals ever, so i expect we will be reading about it before long. Meyer would obviously be done at Florida for directly offering $50,000 cash to a recruit. in fact, he would never work for another university, ever.
