Kippy Brown, Gran Gone - Rumor

I can't imagine CLK wasting much time filling the spots. Sounds like he kept a list in his back pocket.

Do you really think one barely "winning" year is a great change?? The YEAR BEFORED PHIL WAS FIRED WE WERE IN THE SEC CHAMP GAME WE ARE WATCHING TODAY.

The biggest difference I see is we are closer:peace2: to winning it, not waiting for someone to lost it so we can play in it. I loved coach Fulmer, but we are way behind talent wise. As I was watching SEC champ game, I told my wife if you want to see how good our coaching is just look at ALA. For us to stay on the field with them with what we had was amazing. Enough said!!!! Are you in Alaska cause you bet on TN the last few years?????:peace2:

Well we do have S&C coach Ausmus who graduated from UT. So he wouldn't be the first coach with ties, he'd just be the first position coach with ties.

I'd hate to see Gran leave. I don't see how the ease of travelling through Florida from FSU would be that big of a draw. That was never a problem during his 9 years at Auburn. I honestly think the only thing that would make him want to make the move to FSU would be $$$$. Pay up Hamilton!!!
Gran could easily take over RC duties should CEO leave. He's meant more to this program this past year than Wilson, Garza, Cregg and Chaney combined, IMHO.

He has given UT it's strongest foothold in FL I have ever seen...on that basis alone, he deserves a super fat contract (but one with a painful buyout should other teams consider him). Wilson was offered all that cash to keep us from cherry picking recruits from LSU's backyard and to solidify that territory for themselves. If he was worth $300-$350K, Gran easily is...especially since he serves a dual role.

Kippy would be an excellent choice for WR coach as that is what he coached at Detroit, and with USC tanking this season, Kippy might give us a shot at getting Prater back in the discussion. Wilson came in not having any experience coaching the position, and I have to think that is one area where a prospective recruit may see as a glaring weakness. What's more with Kippy, is not only does it add another coach with an NFL pedigree, but he would be a great candidate to take over OC duties when that position comes open. So, yeah...he'd be a huge upgrade over Wilson, IMHO.

I'd take a clownstomping from whoever as long we're in the SECCG.... take that for what it's worth.

I think most posters on here would agree with me: I liked Majors and Fulmer. Both are rich because of the salaries they made. The did a good job. It was (at least) time for them to go when they left. Can we please move on, now?

Kiffin seems to be building something special. I think people need to look at the possibility that Kiffin may have had a part in helping Gran to another job. Special teams were not that special. I think he could already have an upgrade in mind. I am not worried.

And going to the SECCG is not the same as winning it, or having a really good chance in it. I am not sure that I would agree, when the good teams are embarrassing you all year long.

Cabin fever getting to you already? Don't fret dude, it's only 4 more months til breakup and you can get out and clear your head again.

I will eat my crow if wrong but pretty sure Gran is gone...if not this Luc thing makes no sense and will no longer follow recruiting as it will put me in an early grave.

I wonder what Kippy's making at Detroit? He is assistant head coach there and is a brilliant minded coach. It would be awesome to have him back in Knoxville, but very unlikely, i would think. He played at Memphis, but that doesn't mean anything. Having him at Tennessee will attract kids like wanting to play for Monte. Good Ole Sweetwater, TN boy and he's had great coaching positions.

I agree as a fellow Sweetwater Tn Wild Cat !!! They don't make'm any better than the "Sweetwater Boys" !

How do you kids get time to make 13,000 and 14,000 posts? Do you need jobs' Am I paying for your DSL?

I doubt that much of anything mkes sense to you!

Whew, good thinking. Your logic sucks so attack the people on here questioning you. YEAH! Good idea! By the way, we were paved a golden road to the SECCG in '07 we didn't really earn it.

I like Gran as much as the next guy on here, but it's not like he is the only coach in the country that can recruit Fla. Lane will find an adequate replacement if he needs to.

Very well said; I agree 100%. It certainly won't be a good thing to lose Gran, but I have as much confidence in CLK's ability to recruit quality assistant coaches as I do in his ability to recruit quality players. It's not like he's going to be replacing quality coaches with scrubs. Remember, good coaches develop just like good players do. Somewhere out there, there's another Eddie Gran in the making that hasn't yet been discovered or given the opportunity to prove himself. Exactly like what Kiffinator said, CLK will find a very qualified replacement, should it come to that. Have confidence in Kiffin; he hasn't let us down yet.:salute::salute::salute:

I don't know if this has been brought up in this or any other thread regarding Gran, but the thing I don't get is that he literally petitioned Kiffin for a job. I'm not sure where the article is that said it, but Gran was constantly hounding Kiffin about coming here. If he wanted to be on this staff that badly then don't you think he'd want to stick around for more than a year?

Maybe he didn't mesh well with the rest of the coaches. I know he's a family man to the core so maybe thinks Fisher at FSU won't work him as hard and he'll get more family time.

I honestly believe this is what the deal is.

Being closer to his family, with regards in only having to recruit FL. You can go anywhere in Florida within a 4 hours drive, for the most part. These guys spend more hours recruiting, than they do coaching, IMO.

Try google maps... OR.. have you ever actually BEEN to florida. I live near the center of the state, and I can't drive to Pensacola in 4 hours.... well.. maybe, but it is close.. and Miami is a stretch too.

From Tallahassee, Tampa and O town are 4-4.5 hours as is Pensacola. Mobile is another 40 miles past Pensacola.

Now, Miami is another 4 -4.5 hours past Orlando or Tampa, so thats 9 hours or a one hour flight from Tally. Either way , Eric's basic premise is correct, he is a lot closer to where he is doing his magic. CEG was a blessing to the staff lst year, but he is replaceable. My son goes to FSU and if I get a chance to see him I will thank him for his good work.

I really have no idea. It was just a thought. I think Browning is a big time coach and would like to keep him...

Interesting...could very well be a factor in Kiffin letting Wilson walk without an obvious attempt to counter and possibly Gran.

I'd guess there are a couple of untouchables like O and obviously Monte and most of the rest are replaceable. I'd guess we'll see more younger up and comers mixed into the veteran coaches. That will allow us to manage salary issues and ease the tension of too many veteran/former coodinator types bumping into each other on a daily basis.

This was a grate veteran staff to get the ball moving, but won't probably see or need that many veteran coaches together going forward.
