When are we gonna see the Black unis again? huh, huh , huh ,huh

Thats all we're gonna hear from now until Jesus Christ comes back. Blah, blah, blah, black unis.

But it's green. Green is fine. Black though? Not in Tennessee.

Edit: Sarcasm alert before anyone misunderstands that.

I wonder if green jerseys would confuse a D and they wouldn't hit us. Kiff may need to try it

I don't care if we ever wear them again. I just think it is sad that so many people are up in arms about it.

ND has an alternate uniform but I guess they aren't traditional winners?

Now...how often do they wear green????? Once every 3-5 yrs????

Do that on REALLY special games...Fine......but please not once a yr . NO BLACK OUT GAMES!

BTW...I'm 39 and not old!

I never said what we did last Saturday night was a bad thing. If you'll re-read my first post, I said it was a cool thing to do on Halloween night. The players asked for a reward and got it, deservedly so.

I'm saying let's not get carried away and say we should wear all black more often or for all the big games, as some have said. Could you really imagine Peyton wearing a black jersey when he ran that naked bootleg in against Bama in '95 (I know it was an away game, but you see my point)? Or when he led the band in Rocky Top? Or Peerless Price's TD catch in the '98 Fiesta Bowl?

Those indelible images are part of our identity, just like the classic orange and white uniforms and checkboard endzones. I'm not saying Saturday night was a bad move. I'm saying let's not do it often.

The reason teams like USC, Alabama, Texas, the Yankees, the Packers, etc. don't change their uniforms is because they are timeless. It's all a part of an identity (a.k.a. tradition, if you must). And we're part of that group.

And as I've said before, this is not a generational thing. I'm 25.

Having said that, I finished with the whole uniform discussion. It's gotten redundant.

Got ya.

Penn State has been unbelievably irrelevant since joining the Big 10. Notre Dame is a waste of publicity. Nebraska hasn't been elite since their players stopped taking steroids a few years ago. I'm not sure their tradition has been helping them that much lately.

USC, OU, Texas, Michigan (yeah I think Rich Rod is going to bring them back), and Alabama are going to be good in the future, but I'd say it has more to do with their coaching situation than their jerseys.

Those programs are going to be good because of their traditions (fan base support, reputation, and coaching legacy). Jerseys have nothing to do with wins or losses as you say. I also think that their effect on recruiting and team motivation are drastically overstated. We were going to kick USCjr's butts no matter what we wore. Jerseys do, however, lend themselves to the preservation of tradition in the form of traditional uniforms. I'm not saying that it's bad to mix it up on very rary occasions, but let's not sell out the traditions and symbols that make us UT just to get 15 minutes of publicity from ESPN2 or their website. Save selling out/creating new tradition for the programs that need it (boise state/Oregon/Utah/UNC/Cinci). We will reach the holy land again, and when we get there, we will be clad in our traditional BIG ORANGE!

And you're the idiot for making such a blanket statement that you knew you didn't actually believe. I was merely calling you out on it. So, if you YOU don't get it..follow your own advice.

Moron of the year award....what dont I believe...its outlandish because crimson and white have been taken...dips***.

Preach on!!

Black uniform was stupid and cheap, just like our staff. This is Tennessee not UGA! I thought Lame Kitten left the black jerseys w/the raider nation? WTF? Next he'll want to change "Rocky Top" since he didn't get to sing it all night long after UF. Go Home.:eek:k:

Try not to let jealousy get the best of you. :eek:k:

Saturday night, Tennessee strutted some black jerseys with orange numbers against South Carolina. Dash reaction: Not quite as hideous as anticipated, but not exactly a look that evokes memories of Gen. Neyland, Johnny Majors, Reggie White and Peyton Manning. If the decidedly nontraditional Lane Kiffin thinks it would help him sign a recruit, the Volunteers would come running out through a cursive "T" before their next home game.

Sounds kind of whorey to me. Maybe a submarine to the stadium instead of the Vol Walk. Tradition is so in the past, but a record still ain't good. You'll never see Bama do something so cheap as to scrap their colors. Sad day for Vols when we have to copy UGA.

Because it's not traditional. Don't you see? Tradition is more important that anything. We can have a losing season every year as long as we respect tradition.

Tear out my beard and uncover my head....Tradition!!

I'm betting some of the people here complaining about the black jerseys were the ones who got up and left when the team ran through the T. Sheesh

Us "old folks" tend to not like things F'ed with, especially when there's nothing wrong in the first place.

As Kiffin said, "It's a players' game." Emain nailed it. We're trying to sell our program to 17-18 year old kids, not "old folks." Most of the players we recruit couldn't care less about 30 or 40 years ago. They care about what a program is doing NOW. Fact is, we had become a stale program and Kiffin knew he had to do whatever he could to shake things up. Recruits do notice these things.

It's sad that some people are content with losing seasons as long as their precious "traditions" are preserved.

Hey what kind of players/recruits are we getting? Obviously the same as Georgia. Why does the Alabama, Florida, Texas, etc. players/recruits not want black? If they want something they are suppose to get it? Ain't that right? Who runs the show anyway? Can you see Berry or Hardesty calling Kiffin into thier office with a player demand? Is there a take over coming? We can have a weekly program with player demands. And was playing the awful Rap (can't call it music) at practice...was it one of the player demands? Kiffin surely can't stand it, and I know his father hates it. Must have been a player demand. What will be the player demand for Memphis, Ole Miss?

This would be a good time for you to give up snorting mayo.
