Somebody edit that Lil' Wayne song, too. We don't need rappers sullying our good southern reputation.

but...but...he's from the South. If it was like one of dem' yankee rappers like Jay-Z or Em, then we would have to kick their asses out :)

I can understand people talking about how it's not tradition to wear black and all that, but they really weren't bad jerseys.

I can't really take this any further without offending southerners or African-Americans, so I will leave my edgy comedy for another day.

Which one of Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, USC and Penn State was on the front page of the college football section of ESPN today?

I'll see your ridiculous comeback and raise you one.

Which ones went to a BCS bowl last year? (all)

Which ones are ahead of us in the current Rivals rankings? (all but USC)

Point: They're all big boys in college football, and so are we. A one-time black/orange for Halloween is cool, but don't get carried away. We don't need fads or gimmicks.

If the decidedly nontraditional Lane Kiffin thinks it would help him sign a recruit, the Volunteers would come running out through a cursive "T" before their next home game.

I love this picture. Crompy leading us to the promised land.

We don't need them. That doesn't mean they can't ever be used. I'm not sure how wearing black makes UT less of a program.

So, the next time the players want black jerseys what do you propose we do to keep the players happy? They are the ones out there busting their butts to try to win games for the fans. Do they not deserve a little reward every now and then?

And are you really trying to argue that publicity for the program is a bad thing?

I'm pretty sure if Alabama wore black this entire year, they would still be unbeaten.

Because it's not traditional. Don't you see? Tradition is more important that anything. We can have a losing season every year as long as we respect tradition.

The great football programs don't have to sell out their traditions to get their team fired up or to get recruits on board. USC, OU, Tex, Neb, Penn State, Mich, Notre Dame, Alabama (gag), etc. The black on orange were halloween colors and that's all they should be used for....Halloween.
Penn State has been unbelievably irrelevant since joining the Big 10. Notre Dame is a waste of publicity. Nebraska hasn't been elite since their players stopped taking steroids a few years ago. I'm not sure their tradition has been helping them that much lately.

USC, OU, Texas, Michigan (yeah I think Rich Rod is going to bring them back), and Alabama are going to be good in the future, but I'd say it has more to do with their coaching situation than their jerseys.

they looked fine...nothing special. But they were fitting. They did exactly what they were meant to do...fire up the players; fire up the fan base; fire up recruits; and grab the attention of the outsiders to the program. I call it SUCCESS....

How can it be a success when Jimmy Hyams is pissed?

YOU YOUNGSTERS ARE STUPID!

lets get a new logo, new fight song, new stadium........the traditional winners in college football don't change anything!!!!! Learn from the best!

Once every 5-6 yrs w/black unis...ok, but not 1 time a year! Please!!!!!

they did look good...but stick with TRADITION!

Its useless. Give it up!! They dont care!! They would be in line for changing the American Flag if somebody suggested it.

I never said what we did last Saturday night was a bad thing. If you'll re-read my first post, I said it was a cool thing to do on Halloween night. The players asked for a reward and got it, deservedly so.

I'm saying let's not get carried away and say we should wear all black more often or for all the big games, as some have said. Could you really imagine Peyton wearing a black jersey when he ran that naked bootleg in against Bama in '95 (I know it was an away game, but you see my point)? Or when he led the band in Rocky Top? Or Peerless Price's TD catch in the '98 Fiesta Bowl?

Those indelible images are part of our identity, just like the classic orange and white uniforms and checkboard endzones. I'm not saying Saturday night was a bad move. I'm saying let's not do it often.

The reason teams like USC, Alabama, Texas, the Yankees, the Packers, etc. don't change their uniforms is because they are timeless. It's all a part of an identity (a.k.a. tradition, if you must). And we're part of that group.

And as I've said before, this is not a generational thing. I'm 25.

Having said that, I finished with the whole uniform discussion. It's gotten redundant.
