FINALLY: The Bruce Irvin Feature Story!

6'4" 235lbs 4.36 40 time
Can Irvin catch a ball? You are talking a protypical pro receiver, wow.

That 40 time was a one-time, hand-timed 40 yard dash... besides, this guy is made to play defense. To me, he actually would make a great Mike LB. He can go sideline-sideline and also is very good in coverage. I believe he played some safety last year or in HS. He could be a Taylor Mays clone.

Oh here's something that I didn't mention that should be known:

After the interview... me and BJ stood out on the field.. and
BJ has said he can run 4.36 easy! ... He had me out on the field and said time me... ill run 4.3 right now....

I told him... for the sake of your health and the team (Mt. SAC) I won't go through this.. but if you confidently say that you can run better than the clocked time.. I'm gonna believe you.

The fact that people are making a big fuss.... maybe one day I'll do it ... but if he looks me dead in the eye and tell me he can easily run 4.3 ... I"ll take his word ... no athlete is going to eye me and say BS ... well thats just my opinion but still.

Oh good grief I forgot again ... he has played receiver before ... I wouldn't be surprised if Coach Jabs pulls a rabbit out of the hat this season and makes BJ play receiver..

he's told me he's played before and is real good ... I mean Duhh... his physical ability and his height....

just a footnote.

My point is that I think somehow we are pushing a story.

"Bruce Irvin is happy with his decision and is all vol" will generate less user interest than
"Bruce Irvin is the greatest LB prospect since Ray Lewis and he may be waffling on his UT commitment because he is going to listen hard to offers from all of these schools with large active fan bases who will love this article."

Back two months ago I thought it was a bit funny that James was trying to interest UT fans in loads of other Mt. Sac prospects. He is very thorough, and I like his insights, but so far Lamaison has not been nearly as good as advertised and he is IMO not helping UT with the only stud LB we have locked up in this class.

I do know that our coaching staff can prepare LBs for the NFL better than UF, or USC, or LSU and that they will end up with Luc, or Fortt, or Mosley or whoever they need to get to be the best.

this is my opinion...

so far the offensive players have not been effective in the D-1 level..

(but im only speaking of kevin craft as far as players recently)

but we have aiona key at utah who is making buzz over there....

matt austin, who is at utah state.. but i don't think he's playing this year because of a broken foot he suffered just before this season....

eddie williams, whom you all saw play for ucla last week has had significant playing time...

from a player standpoint defensive players seem to get the buzz from our school.....

one of our running backs.. burton iosefa is making buzz with mt. sac....

that saying... its perfectly legitimate for anyone to question the effectiveness of offensive players at mt. sac.. but...

u have to kind of look into how this season pans out.. and for next year (in nick's case)

with kevin craft.. i mean well just see if he plays against stanford next week......

rumor is kevin and eddie may be coming to mt sac game this weekend since ucla is on bye week.

thats my thoughts.

last i talked.. yes he does.

James, I'm not sure if you're aware of this quote about his decision to commit to the Vols:

"(Orgeron) just seemed confident and passionate about getting me to Tennessee," Irvin said. "He stuck his head out for me and I'm going to prove that he made the right decision. No school could change my mind. Tennessee is it for me. I'm done."

What do you make of it? Has he started to entertain other schools?

James I am not ripping you or Lamaison, I was simply pointing out that it works out well for you if a guy is waffling versus if he is solid.

What I meant to convey is that readers should not freak out if you try to talk up the Mt. Sac guys and try to make us believe that our incredible LB commit may be looking around.

Also as I have said before to you on another thread, I would love it if you would start doing more reporting on other Cali prospects. You could get great interviews with guys like George Uko (who I think has eliminated us now), Josh Shirley (one of the highest LBs I think left on our board), Dietrich Riley etc.

UT is about to have a HUGE cali connection both at HS and JC level.

When he committed back in may or june. I think it was from a free VolQuest article.

I went to see him at practice today... right now.... he's still Tennessee bound... just as the article states.

The story was merely to insure that it wasn't a solidified YES to Tennessee... I didn't want to put myself out there and say that its a sure short thing..

in my opinion I think he's tennessee bound...

but what he decides... i have no clue..

I talk with him a few times a week ... I know more than what's published ... I know that during this season, after this article more might be interested.... I'll just leave it as that.

The best way to keep a secret is to avoid any allusions as to its existence.

If you mention that you have a secret, and then don't share it - you're being disingenuous with a confidence at best, or a simple attention-skank at worst.

What is with you recruiting geeks of late with the teases?!

Good God, man, do you guys not see the number of people who practically live on this board - here's a hint: they'll read your stuff regardless as to whether you tantalize them with it or not.

It's like throwing in some parsley with the chum.

It's flat dumb, it's pointless, its unnecessary, and exceedingly annoying.

So. Stop. Already. Really.

Grab the mic, do your joke, get off the stage. Don't do jazz hands. No soft shoe required. Certainly no pop-n-lockin'.

If your stuff is good, people will appreciate it. If not, they'll ridicule it. So stop with the teases.

Irvin is coming to Tennessee, done deal book it! Just like in the few posts above me, he said Tennessee is his best choice & no school will change his mind.

My only question is, will he play LB or be on the DL? A govolsxtra article has him as a DL.

LB...They may mean that he is able to play DE, but he will be an LB. Monte has big plans for him.

That's fine...but "MORE" doesn't have a 102,000+ stadium with 2nd to none facilities and the NFL's most renowned Defensive Coordinator now coaching them...with all of his connections to former assistants (many of whom are either coordinators or Head coaches...like Mike Tomlin of the Steelers).

Remember the saying...."It's not WHAT you know, but WHO you know?" Well, there isn't a lot of publicity about it yet, but you better believe a defensive player is going to get drafted higher than otherwise if you have Monte in your corner. How often to you find a $2 million per year NFL coordinator leave on his own for less (NCAA) money? I just doesn't happen. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Bruce. I hope he realizes that. There is no equivalent to him in college ball today...and that's not even mentioning him having arguably the best Defensive Line coach in college, Ed Orgeron (was the DL coach with the N.O. Saints last year...a team that looks poised to make a Superbowl run this year). This class already has so much talent to surround Bruce with, that no opponent will be able to double team him.

I'm sure Monte gets dozens of phone calls from former colleagues and NFL scouts about his players, in the offseason, leading up to the draft. Just watch how many he puts in the draft the next few seasons. NFL coaches are going to focus like a laser beam on this program, as no other program has that much NFL experience and ability to have draft picks ready to make an impact right away. Playing for Monte Kiffin is an NFL internship...it's that simple.

It's somewhat like the Animation program I'm taking here...if I were looking to get on with Disney as an animator...and realized that one of the long time Art Directors at Disney was teaching here. I'd be a fool not to take his class and get under his tutelage, and bust my but, knowing that his connections and experience give me a leg up on other artists with similar skills/talent.

Nice post Tenacious D! My problem is that I come on this board to hear recruiting news not for those in the know to say "hey this is what it is right now but I have info that I cannot share that may change my story". I respect the confidentiality of the recruits and sources but at what point do we know that the recruiting gurus don't already have another article canned and at what point especially on a board like Volnation do they try and take advantage of the open board policy to promote themselves and not write an article with full disclosure (either good or bad for UT recruiting).
