I Am Amazed By The Kool-Aid

And I love how threads like this are so black and white. In threads like this, displaying proper reasoning skills = being a traitor. And when you say anything that even looks anti-"ALL VOL", then people come in trying to make their "bleed orange", "all heart" comments.

Fan 1: "I just don't see us winning this weekend. Florida is ready for us and our talent pool isn't deep enough to match well with theirs. We will try hard, but don't anyone get their hopes up so you don't come in here Saturday night and make 100 'the sky is falling' posts."

Fan 2: "Well our guys might not have Heismans, but they have HEART and they bleed ORANGE! We're gonna beat Florida! Go Vols!"

I am not one of those fans, but my question to you is this....Have you ever seen a huge upset? Happen every year in football. Not probable to happen, but could. IMO, our defense will make the game respectable...our offense will be our sore thumb. That is stating the obvious

Hope never accomplished a d@mn thing. It's just opium for the masses. Doing is the only thing that matters.
Contaire my friend. All I had was hope when my wife was given a 50/50 shot of survival 10 years ago. I did nothing BUT hope and pray. It was even out of the doctor's hands, so don't tell me hope doesn't do a damn thing. 10 years later, I still have my best friend so go away Debbie Downer.

I don't care if people have faith and hope. That's great. I'm not going to get all worked up about the Florida game because I don't feel like drowning myself in booze again, but if everyone else wants to hold out hope I really don't have a problem with that.

The thing that I'm worried about is these people that are throwing all their hopes out there for us to upset Florida are going to be the same ones flooding the forum with more "Crompton sucks", "Kiffin can't coach a lick", "I'm so torn up", "Worst day ever", "Recruiting is shot" threads. I just see it happening. And there's going to be the group of people that put all of their emotions and feelings on the Florida game that are going to be trashing Kiffin. It just gets annoying more than anything.

And in the back of my mind, I'm secretly holding out for an upset. But I feel like I can handle it when we're down bad in the 3rd as opposed to someone who has convinced themselves that we can hold it within 10 points.

football is not life and death

I believe that Tennessee can beat Florida. Ole Miss did it last season, so can we. That being said, I don't think we will because Florida probably won't make the same mistakes they did against UM.

Ole Miss had Jevan Snead, not one is going to confuse Crompton with a first round NFL draft pick

I know what you're getting at but it's overly dismissive. For instance, riddle me this;

In the absence of hope, what use is there in evey trying to accomplish anything. Every underdog, in anything, clung to the idea that fighting for it (whatever that may be) has a chance of accomplishing something good. That's hope.

Perhaps better to say that hope, in and of itself, has never accomplished anything.

I was over at rivals and could not believe how many people still think we have a chance to win. Its almost embarrassing to be honest.

why not go preach to the offenders then and leave us to our thoughts? Why should I give a rats behind what the posters on rivals think? I would rather go to tidefans and ask their opinion

Hope is a nice campaign slogan. But achievements are made by people with confidence, daring, ability, and yes, a little bit of luck every once in a while. Today, too many people substitute hope for hard work, but I digress.

Again, I see what you're saying but c'mon man, confidence without hope? You absolutely expect failure and yet stride on with confidence?

Lack of hope is a very common retardent of, for instance, confidence and daring.

Maybe it's semantics and you're seeing "hope" as waiting for some divine force to intervene while you just sit there *****ing. That's not what I and, I believe, most others are talking about when using the word.

I agree 100%. If I see one more thread about "crompton sucking" or "Kiffin can coach" bullcrap, I think I may explode. I guess some folks were thinking we would win the NC after murdering a great team like Western Kentucky.

Even after the debacle on the Hill last Saturday there are still those that think we will "shock the world". Maybe we should rename Neyland and call it "The People's Temple." Seriously, guys we are headed into the most hostile environment in college football to play a game against a team that has won 2 national championships in 4 years. Did I mention that they have the best player in college football at the most important position? I was over at rivals and could not believe how many people still think we have a chance to win. Its almost embarrassing to be honest. Look, I love the Vols and I have witnessed some amazing upsets in my time, the 86 Sugar Bowl comes to mind. No one said we had a chance then, but that crowd was decidedly pro-vols and electric. We wont have that emotional lift this go around. I want us to win, but honestly, we dont have a chance. I want us to show some heart, to play hard to the end and never give up no matter what the score may be. If we can do that, then I think CLK will have done his job in his first visit to the swamp.

I with you mostly...but you're contradicting yourself. How do you expect the players to play hard for us when people like you are saying there is ZERO chance of a win. What else do you play for besides a win? I think we have a chance, however small it may be doesn't matter.

I will start the day the same way I always do: Tennessee gear on, flag out, house open to other fans, beer & wings, optimism in tow, mad at the refs for bad calls, and convinced we'll win. Otherwise, I just don't wanna do it.

I'll be there. Address please? :good!:

I'm not going to bash rex here because I think I know where hes coming from. Rex is more of an x @ o guy hes looking at match ups what we do best what they do best samething with each teams weaknesses, depht, inviorment, thinking with his head not his heart. Add these up it don't look good. They are better than us 2o out of 22 pos. then factor in the special teams why should anybody think we could win but Rex I've played a little ball and coached alot never went or took a team to a place where I didn't think we had a chance. Anything can happen and I would be very disappointed if our players and coaches thought we had no chance. What a upset it would be !!!

Im talking about our fans flooding a national message board with ignorant posts about us upsetting UF. Its not just there its here as well. Have you seen some of the moronic responses in this thread? Some of you think that you can be a vol fan unless you a blind homer with no grasp on reality. Im not preaching here, when I do that I usually take up an offering.

I'm 30 years old. My first vivid recollections of Tennessee football were probably during the mid to late 80's. I have never thought "We are going to lose this game". I'm not starting now.

The difference in past upsets and now was we had a competent QB under center. JC is a huge liability. In my estimation he has single handidly cost us 4 games (2 losses to UCLA, Wyoming and Auburn).
He is the antithisis to Tim Tebow. With him under center there will be no miracles this year. It is the sad fact that we must all come to terms with.

One player, one loss.

Granted he can't think on the field, but I'll never give up on my Vols. I'd hate to be Kiffin right now.

Finally a voice of reason and understanding. Why do we keep seeing posts that say, I have a felling...That feeling is the kool-aid finally taking effect. I hope we show up and fight them like a championship team should. with heart and to play hard. we're still 2 years away from competing with the gators. I can't wait for that day to come! Go Vols.
