Crompton and the VolNation Alarmist Response

Boo birds are so annoying. Sure, mistakes are disappointing, but they happen in every game on both sides. The winners get over them and move on to success. How can they do that if their fans turn on them?

Wow! I'm extremely disappointed in this fan base. This is what makes us look so bad to many other fans. Trashing our own QB like this. He is OUR Quarterback. He had a bad game, not his first, but last week he had a great game. When ESPN reports Crompton received death threats last year, did you think that is ok? What is wrong with some of you guys? He's our QB, he's on our team, he has the best intentions. As much as it may seem like it, he's not a mole sent to destroy Tennessee from with in. Get behind him, cheer him on.

What result do you expect to get when you boo your starting QB? You think that'll make him play better?

Another side note. The last thing I want to do is use Alabama as model fan base, however do you know what they did between 1996-2006? The teams went 51-55. Terrible to our standards and terrible to thiers as well, but... Guess what? They've sold their stadium out since 1988. For our opener we had 6,000 seats open. I have faith in this coaching staff and group of young guys. They need our support. Let's give it to them. They obviously need it.

So Johnathon Crompton isn't the greatest QB to ever grace the Orange and White. No arguments. He's not Peyton Manning. He's not Eric Ainge. He's not Casey Clausen. Hell, he's not Rick Clausen. But he's our QB and the fact he gets boo'ed in his home, in our home, is deplorable. You don't crap on someone when they're down, especially if he's your own. When Crompton starts to slump, Neyland needs to scream. We, the crowd, need to lift him up. We need to become 100,000 motivators. He needs to know that whether he goes down the field for 90 yard drive or 4-and-out that the crowd is with him regardless. He's ours. He needs fan support not fan disapproval. Keep Neyland screaming and keep Johnathon's head in the game.

And a second note...

What's with the "oh, it's over" attitude? It's one game. One Non-Conference game. What kind of season did you think we would roll through after going 5-7? Were the Vols suppost to make a run at the National Title? Everyone hopes so. I'm not gonna deny it. We want it. We deserve it. It's not going to come to the University without fan support. So stop denegrating your QB. Stop rolling over and giving Florida the win. That game is as winable as any other on our schedule. The Florida Gators aren't invincible. Motivation and focus. It's life's secret formula.

Don't roll over, VolNation. Do your part for the Vols success.

Go Vols!

SOOO.. you're saying the fans are the reason Crompton sucks?.. If the only way he can play well is if we ignore his mistakes and continue to cheer him on as "our guy" after consistently losing games then I may as well go root for South Carolina..

Just face it.. Crompton is inept in every sense of the word and I wouldn't question anyone who made the assumption that his personal life isn't any different

"If the only way he can play well is if we ignore his mistakes and continue to cheer him on as "our guy" after consistently losing games then I may as well go root for South Carolina.."

The exact definition of a fair weather fan...

i don't like the boos either. I did plenty of it yesterday at ucla and price, man is he a warrior. But still I was at home. What kid or his parents wants to go to a place where he will be booed if he makes a mistake. this is suppose to be their safe home. do you boo your kids or will you? Leave that for the other team and refs. Don't get me wrong I understand it's just isn't right

The only thing boos will hurt is recruiting, the only recruits that are affected by boos are 2nd tier players who are afraid of hostility and let their grandmothers affect their life decisions.. how does that affect our recruits again?

I'm so shocked that our recruits that visited yesterday would even think about committing to us after how we treated Crompton...

well let's think about it. Mrs barkley where do you want your son to go?

Well any where he wants and they treat my baby good.

USC it is..
get real of course it hurts recruiting

my point is it is not just 2nd tier recuits it stops. Im not saying it will stop every recruit but it will stop some

Apparently it hasn't hurt anything.

Let's be real....every team has those "fans" out on the fringe saying stupid things. If a recruit (or his parents) is dissuaded by booing in the stands or something he reads on a chat board by someone that has nothing at all to do with the program....well....I'm not sure that prospect has the mettle that UT is looking for anyway.

SO you're saying a comment by Matt Barkley's mom is the only thing you can come up with? and a comment that has nothing to do with what we're talking about here...

24 hour rule, gentlemen. I don't need that long. Ole Miss lost to Vandy the week before playing Florida last year, and lost to Wake in a heartbreaker two weeks before that.

Play til the whistle blows.

Go Vols, beat Florida!

I see your point & love the optimism, but Crompton isn't 1/1,000,000,000th the QB Jevan Snead is....

passionate fans are the reason players commit.. the good is really good and the bad is really bad...lol I love it.

Just a thought if someone runs the wrong route are you forced to throw anyway? That is weak blaming your targets. Leaders don't blame their teammates they accept responsibility. I think this team may have a real morale problem going forward if JC is the starter. Alone on the sidelines? He wasn't throwing a no-hitter so one can only guess why he was being avoided.

You act as if the fans started it.

we could all stand in neyland and whoop and holler and yell until we're blue in the face, but its not going to magically mutate jc into a qb. god i've given the guy every chance in the world, i've tried to like him, i really have. i had faith that the guy had finally been groomed into the qb we all want him to be, up until the game last night. it is BLATANTLY obvious that he CANNOT qb the vols to victory. he just can't. stephens should have been given a chance, i realize that clk wasn't about to put ns in and appear to have problems making decisions. i was watching the game on tv and it kept panning over to stephens, he looked like he wanted to get in there and lord knows he couldn't have done any worst. keeping jc as THE qb, is like fighting in a war, with a tank that, instead of blowing your enemies to smithereens, makes them a sandwich and gives them a back rub. all the while you got this other tank who might do the same thing, but also may do what you need him too.

we can keep jc as the main man and continue to shoot ourselves in the foot. we should at least try out ns. granted, we may continue to shoot ourselves in the foot, but at this point, we've got to do something.

maybe i am missing some thing are we not talking about whether or not to boo our own players

Death threats are wrong and when he is playing I will support him. I don't like his attitude or leadership and will be critical of him . His actions during and after the game make him deserving of criticism.
