Crompton and the VolNation Alarmist Response

I don't post on volnation offten, but this is ridiculous. I truly understand that you don't think crompton's the man for the job, but the least you guys can do is support him. Trying to see it from his perspective, it doesn't make you strive for improvement when you get booed at your homefield. With that being said, im starting to suspect the kid has severe psychological problems or we slightly overlooked UCLA due to the overwhelming significance of the Florida game. Id like to believe that the second one is true partially because Lane Kiffin at least has to play florida close to back up his statements in the offseason. But yea thats about it. Go vols.

Not sure I agree.......the administration overhauled the coaching staff and made a huge investment into making a fresh start and building something special for the Vols and Vol fans. If a piece of that puzzle is still broken, it needs to be addressed...voicing displeasure is one way we have as fans to highlight weaknesses....as well, if it were someone other than JC we will let the world know.

UCLA's d backs were like a kid in a candy store when JC was back to throw. He was/is bad. But, i have enough faith in this staff that they will do the right thing. ( i hope) Remember, N. Stephens is not a whole lot better. Our d backs call him pick nick. We are still in the same bad spot we were last year. Our coaching staff is much better than last year though.

He can be the best practice QB in the country but when the lights come on he is a complete failure. I have never seen a worse excuse of a QB at TN then this clown. Every mistake he makes he looks to blame someone else instead of taking responsibility. His ego and his lack of ability in real game settings is why he sucks!

Is Kiffin that loyal or Stephens that bad?

The latter. Why does Kiffin have any reason to be loyal to Crompton, or anyone else? He's only been UT's coach for 9 months.

If Stephens was the better QB, he would have played.

Finally a little sanity in this thread

No it wasn't. The OP said limit the reactions to the actual play rather than taking personal shots at a kid who wants to play his best. It's good advice.

I don't like the kid because of his comments from last season, but I have to assume he wants to win just like I do.

It sucks that I drove 640 mile round trip to watch my team get beat, but there is no sense in all the boo birds coming out. If you cant encourage just simply dont do anything at all. :twocents:

Wishing a 100,000 people would support Crompton when they watch him single handedly, not to mention repeatedly, lose a game we should have won is just a pipe dream.

It's a tough world out there sunshine, and complete incompetence should not be applauded anytime.

The boy has had every opportunity to perform at the same level as the rest of the team. The sad truth is, he is way over his head at this level. He just plain doesn't have the intelligence, or mental fortitude to lead a team. Having physical skills means nothing when you panic when needed most. We've had years of giving him chances and biting our tongues while hoping he gets it together next time. The Western KY game had us all hoping that the new staff and a new year might have given him confidence, finally, and he might be effective enough that he wouldn't negate everyone elses efforts. So it was too much to take to watch him, and only him, perform so badly as to not only lose the game, but also demotivate the entire team. He deserves to be booed, and no amount of support will ever change his mental weaknesses. We've had enough of our coaches letting this guy implode, and we have only one way to communicate it. The idea that if we all held hands and sang cum-ba-ya for him that he might not lose his mind is laughable. "Keep Cromptons head in the game" indeed. Good luck with that one.

That was beautiful.

Our society wants to coddle everyone. This is just another example. Suck it up and play, or get off the field.

Shave the 'stash, too.

I can no longer stand the boo'ing threads. As much as we pay for tickets, we are able to boo if we want. If a division 1 athlete that is going to school absolutely free cannot take it, then get the hell out. 2 a days are tougher physically and mentally than being booed. Let it go.

Agreed

First thing, I never boo at games except when the opposing team takes the field. I do think you can boo a player or coach and still support the program.

I don't understand what college coaches and recruiting sites saw in him when he was being recruited? Did he look off receivers in high school, did he show composure in the pocket, was he accurate in his throws?

My guess is he play against inferior opponents and his stats were highly inflated. Probably all he had to do was play pitch and catch with the receivers. Look at Colt McCoy when he was recruited. He was a 3* but look at his skillset that he shows now! He looks off receivers, as intensity of a lion, shows leadership, doesn't freak out under pressure, shows resiliency (last game started out bad but still had overall impressive numbers for the game). We need to recruit players like that. I hate this developing crap we always talk about, "Oh they played QB their entire career but they will be an awesome receiver in college!" I know Teague fits this mold but the jury has spoke whether he will turn out to be a mediocre college player or a Dez Bryant type player. I really like Ogeron's ability to scout talent. Look at freaking Ole Miss now. I read Meat Market and it gives such great insight into recruiting. There are so many variables that make a high school player a great college player. Just like a good college player doesn't always become a good NFL player (Vince Young, Rex Grossman, Ryan Leaf). I want players that are coachable, have a high instinctual IQ, show heart, and players who are fearless to competition. We haven't seen that in years and I'm sick and tired of it.

Everyone hypes of Fulmer on how well of a recruiter he was. I think its a hoaxed. You just can't recruit the a bunch of 4*'s and say we are good to go. You have to recruit players that match your needs and weed out the 4*'s and 5*'s who aren't going to cut in college (Chris Donald and Jonathon Crompton). Many people criticize recruiting services about Donald stating that he played against horrible competition and he would be exposed in college. They also stated he doesn't have the football IQ to make it big either. hmmmm.... so far I think most people have proved to be right.

Look at Boise State. They probably do a better job than anyone as far as squeezing as much talent out of what they can recruit. They aren't loaded with 4* players but mostly 2* and 3* players. On the flip side you have USC and Florida who are getting blue chippers galore and perennial national championship contenders. How are they so successful? They ensure they recruit players for their system. USC recruits big tall receivers and big white boys who can throw it in the pocket. Florida recruits speedy utility players and dual-threat type QB's. Tennessee has a talent pool that is talented but does not suit one style of play. For example, Fulmer tried to recruit Tajh Boyd, a dual-threat qb. Speaking defensively, the numbers do not lie. We recruit well for the mustang package chavis used. Back to offense, we had big giant butterball marshmellows for linemen that did nothing more than clogged up the line and made defenders spend more time moving around their fat butts.

CLK wants a leaner line who is athletic. Look at USC's line. Those guys look like they could be on WWE or something. They all have huge ripped arms and look stocky not fat. We have bozo the clown tossing the ball around and shows zero QB instincts on the field. CLK has recruited a true drop-back passer, which from video seems to have some sense QB instincts.

All I am trying to say is everyone should jump on the staff's back for a little while. Look at Coach Rod at Michigan. They sucked last year but look now since they have a QB that is a true dual-threat QB that matches the spread offense that Coach Rod wants. They had to work with what they had last year and the result was a horrible record. When all the pieces of the puzzle are put together we should then start being critical of the coaches. We had four costly turnovers yesterday and we still had a chance to win the game. Seriously, we are ok. I am as big a Vols fan as anyone else and I want to win more than anyone else but if we don't support the team than we are only going to hurt them more.

Go VOLS!!!!

This serious? Yes vol by choice, and im a vol fan by choice! I want a QB who can lead my team respectlively.

I'm not saying that Crompton wasn't staring down receivers and missing the wide open ones, he was absolutely awful, but our O-Line giving up on him didn't help...they opened the flood gates midway through the second quarter and Crompton had no chance.
