Crompton and the VolNation Alarmist Response

24 hour rule, gentlemen. I don't need that long. Ole Miss lost to Vandy the week before playing Florida last year, and lost to Wake in a heartbreaker two weeks before that.

Play til the whistle blows.

Go Vols, beat Florida!

We, the crowd, need to lift him up. We need to become 100,000 motivators. Keep Neyland screaming and keep Johnathon's head in the game.

Wishing a 100,000 people would support Crompton when they watch him singlehandedly, not to mention repeatedly, lose a game we should have won is just a pipe dream. It's a tough world out there sunshine, and complete incompetance should not be applauded anytime. The boy has had every opportunity to perform at the same level as the rest of the team. The sad truth is, he is way over his head at this level. He just plain doesn't have the inteligence, or mental fortitude to lead a team. Having physical skills means nothing when you panic when needed most. We've had years of giving him chances and biting our tongues while hoping he gets it together next time. The Western KY game had us all hoping that the new staff and a new year might have given him confidence, finally, and he might be effective enough that he wouldn't negate everyone elses efforts. So it was too much to take to watch him, and only him, peform so badly as to not only lose the game, but also demotivate the entire team. He deserves to be booed, and no amount of support will ever change his mental weaknesses. We've had enough of our coaches letting this guy implode, and we have only one way to communicate it. The idea that if we all held hands and sang cum-ba-ya for him that he might not lose his mind is laughable. "Keep Cromptons head in the game" indeed. Good luck with that one.

If the booing is getting to Crompton then he is the head case everyone makes him out to be.

I dunno...that last throw in the dirt was vintage "Old Crompton". This was a very winnable game, and we lost it. It's not all Crompton's fault, but as the leader of the offense, he needed to man up and make plays in that last drive, and he didn't. Simple as that.

Crompton should start against UF, if for no other reason than not risking injury to Stephens. If Crompton lays an egg against UF, then I would like to see what Stephens can do as the starting QB.

Based on what I saw (especially on offense) yesterday, I'm starting to think that 6-6 might be a good year for us. If Crompton has "peaked", then why not give Stephens a chance?

Go Vols.

So Johnathon Crompton isn't the greatest QB to ever grace the Orange and White. No arguments. He's not Peyton Manning. He's not Eric Ainge. He's not Casey Clausen. Hell, he's not Rick Clausen. But he's our QB and the fact he gets boo'ed in his home, in our home, is deplorable. You don't crap on someone when they're down, especially if he's your own. When Crompton starts to slump, Neyland needs to scream. We, the crowd, need to lift him up. We need to become 100,000 motivators. He needs to know that whether he goes down the field for 90 yard drive or 4-and-out that the crowd is with him regardless. He's ours. He needs fan support not fan disapproval. Keep Neyland screaming and keep Johnathon's head in the game.

And a second note...

What's with the "oh, it's over" attitude? It's one game. One Non-Conference game. What kind of season did you think we would roll through after going 5-7? Were the Vols suppost to make a run at the National Title? Everyone hopes so. I'm not gonna deny it. We want it. We deserve it. It's not going to come to the University without fan support. So stop denegrating your QB. Stop rolling over and giving Florida the win. That game is as winable as any other on our schedule. The Florida Gators aren't invincible. Motivation and focus. It's life's secret formula.

Don't roll over, VolNation. Do your part for the Vols success.

Go Vols!

If WE (its our team and we support our coach) decide to stick with Crompton ... its over. He cannot produce in a large venue. He has proven that time and time again. Sorry, I appreciate the motivational speech attitude, but go back and look at the games from last year. Compare his performance in big games last year to his performance against UCLA. If we stick with Crompton, we will be running all year. The opposing defense will stack the line and regardless how good the defense plays (and they are good) they will become tired and we are done.

I think people booed a lot more than a player having a bad game. That booing sound is what happens when 100k football fans see an almost identical product on offense to one they saw the year before that produced a 5 win season and got their coach fired. They saw a team that held their opponent to 186 total yards...lose.

Bottom line? People saw something they'd seen before and it's simply an agonizing prospect to, this early in the season, be facing the prospect of having to "Wait 'til next season."

Crompton sucks and YES i would have been BOOOOOING to

They guy is terrible.... Any QB can do good against a high school team like WKU

After what we have been through with this QB situation I think the fans were just trying to let kiffin know its time for a change at the QB position!!!

GO VOLS!!!

When everyone was chanting "Let's Go Crompton" that just added to his dilemma. Booing is just something they have to deal with, it's everywhere. When everyone tried to start motivating him - that put pressure on him. And everyone knows Crompton can't take pressure.

So - motivating him - you can't do that. Crompton is too fragile. He's like that guy in Seinfeld where if you told him you didn't like something he would go and dig a hole in a park and just sit in it.

So, to recap:
Booing Crompton - Crompton breaks under pressure (although technically he had broken before the booing started)
Chanting for Crompton - Crompton breaks under pressure

Asking every one to not boo is like asking 100,000+ fans to sit in perfect silence so that we won't mess up Crompton's confidence.

It's not about whether or not he deserved the booes. It's about fan support. If you want to take credit and victory in the wins, then support needs to be given when the goin' gets bad...or abismal.

If it was a running back turning the ballover we would not see him with the ball the rest of the game. Defense played their asses off once again but got tired. Just saying now would be the time to play Stephens . JC is shot.

All the words in bold are misspelled. Your comma placement leads me to believe you're just guessing where they go. Your grammar as a whole and cohesion of thought...well, I'll not begin. Proof-read.

You should never complain when people make mistakes. You should support me instead of pointing out my slip ups. Maybe with love and support I'd do better. But instead, you decided to essentially boo.

I actually took the time to hit the spell check button because I'd ripped it off pretty fast. But it asked me to download its software and I decided not to since I'm on my wifes work computer.

If you can't take the heat of getting booed when you have a piss-poor performance, you don't need to be playing QB in the Southeastern Conference....simple as that.

Given, I was not booing him, and there were some Crompton chants before that last drive, the poor guy just doesn't have 'it'. As much as you, me, whomever wants him to have 'it', 'it' just isn't going to happen.

I HOPE he proves me wrong. I would eat that crow like it was a big plate of BBQ ribs.

I don't post on volnation offten, but this is ridiculous. I truly understand that you don't think crompton's the man for the job, but the least you guys can do is support him. Trying to see it from his perspective, it doesn't make you strive for improvement when you get booed at your homefield. With that being said, im starting to suspect the kid has severe psychological problems or we slightly overlooked UCLA due to the overwhelming significance of the Florida game. Id like to believe that the second one is true partially because Lane Kiffin at least has to play florida close to back up his statements in the offseason. But yea thats about it. Go vols.

you have to have thick skin and the ability to read a defense to play QB in the SEC, obviously he has neither.

:stop:This is a simple request to the fans of the Vols. Please, can we not attack Crompton anymore. I am not talking about his performance (horrible) or whether or not Stephens should get a shot (he should). What I am talking about is giving him human respect.
Remember, this is a kid who has busted his rear for UT, chose to be a Vol over many others, and maybe most importantly, will be a vol for life.

We all have seen his performance and it is what it is. Whether or not he plays is not up to him, all he can do is try his best.
Please understand what I am saying. This is a forum where we should discuss mistakes in play, but commnet about him being the worst ever, or being a mental midget serve no purpose. I understand the angst, I nearly kicked my TV in, changed the channel back and forth a dozen times and vowed never to look on a FB message board again.
It is obvious Crompton is not the kind of QB that can lead us back to the top of the SEC, at least not now. But he is still a Vol by choice. Whetehr we regret that choice or not, lets not make him or any other future player regret the decision to be a Vol. FLAME ON

I once watched crompton make fun of a total stranger for wearing pajama pants to dinner. Never meeting the kid or knowing anything about him, just said something to be smart in front of his friends.

is that considered personal respect?
