I think this is what you'll see happen. If he doesn't show up this weekend, cut him and move on. He should have done that with Boo last year and it turned into a bigger problem. I like Heupel, but he keeps recruiting idiots.
You'd think we'd learn from our past mistakesThanks. Hadn't seen that. I'll be curious to see how this "deal" with Coleman was structured and how our GM deals with this now and going forward. I'm hoping he didn't expose us to having a kid and his family bleed us and we get zero in return with no recourse. If so, I'd consider that grounds for termination.
Very true. Regardless, there has to be someone, somewhere involved(contract attorney?) that makes sure these deals offer the schools some degree of protection against kids pulling a hit and run with the money.Yeah I have no idea how involved he is with the deals directly. It might be a combination of him and the staff together, not 100% sure. But with this new format I would think you need a good GM like a pro team has who is directly responsible for stuff like this.
Can he just enroll somewhere and walk on? I thought I heard that as an option for another case. The portal is closed until next season. He's not in it so he's not going anywhere else to play this year without a bunch of lawyers beating the NCAA.
This is why I believe he'll play at UT unless he's medically unable to play.
Yep. Don't know what he's like in practice/private, but on the surface, Heupel looks like he's very soft spoken and non-confrontational.....a bit of a nice guy/pushover. Yeah, a so-called "players coach".If he doesn't show up this weekend, cut him and move on. He should have done that with Boo last year and it turned into a bigger problem. I like Heupel, but he keeps recruiting idiots.
Cause it's his program.Just a reminder these are voluntary summer workouts, so it's not likely he's getting canned for not showing up. However showing up would show a commitment to playing. Can't discount the value of these workouts.
I am puzzled why Josh is taking most the heat here and not our new DC.
Because Heupel is the head man. No passing blame. The buck stops with him.Just a reminder these are voluntary summer workouts, so it's not likely he's getting canned for not showing up. However showing up would show a commitment to playing. Can't discount the value of these workouts.

That part makes this even more confusing. Chaz obviously cares about money, and an offseason with the best S&C in the country would make him a lot of it come NFL draft time. Right now, all he's doing is giving NFL teams a reason to pass on him. The 10th overall pick generally gets a contract in the neighborhood of $30M. The end of the first round is half that and it falls off a cliff when you get into the 2nd and 3rd round. I can't imagine why a player as talented as him wouldn't be doing everything possible to move up draft boards.Just a reminder these are voluntary summer workouts, so it's not likely he's getting canned for not showing up. However showing up would show a commitment to playing. Can't discount the value of these workouts.

Not much of a Volunteer if he doesn’t show up for voluntary workouts. Sorry, I couldn’t resist.Just a reminder these are voluntary summer workouts, so it's not likely he's getting canned for not showing up. However showing up would show a commitment to playing.
