He took a line drive to face at practice in Hoover. Will miss opener and other is up in the air. Solid player and leader will be missed. Hope he can play SEC games. Hope can do Nc2a tourney. WE saw how long Stone was out after ball to face at Vandy. Stay tuned for updates...in the meantime prayers for healing playing or not.

Guessing this puts Abernathy in the starting lineup, either at 2B (moving Grimmer to LF, Brown to RF) or in CF, moving Wright to RF (my guess is this).

I’m not that concerned about the SEC tournament, but I really hope Reece is available for the NCAA.

Alarming is the right word. I don't exactly know what the fix is, but the velocities off the bat toward a packed dugout in a tight setup like LNS and some other parks are terrifying.

Tanner Wiggins' incident last year was genuinely scary. Horrible to say but the kid was almost lucky it caught his mouth and not his eyes or his neck. And there was 3 or 4 more this year that went in there that could have easily done it again.

Two weekends ago, an absolute rocket seared its way into the home plate side of our dugout. I saw Elander immediately, and emphatically, head into the area behind him. All I could think of was Chuck’s child, maybe 7-8 years old, who is the little bat boy. I’m assuming that’s why E had the reaction he did. It terrifies me, and I’m afraid some day it’s going to be catastrophic.

I’m not one to tell others what they should or should not do, but safety netting is something that needs to happen yesterday.

I know exactly which one you're talking about. Makes me uneasy just thinking about it.

I'm sure someone will be along shortly to say how soft it is and all that, but I agree. Netting, raise the rail, something. You've already had a couple incidents along with numerous near misses, so the clock is ticking until someone is blinded or worse.

There's even been a few fired into the camera wells that were rough. Most of the folks in there are obviously watching closely, but there were a couple times this year someone would have a phone out not paying attention and it was a close call.

As usual, we (talking about society in general, not UT) will wait until something tragic happens before addressing it. There needs to be safety netting or something else to divert balls away from the dugouts.

That “soft” argument is just baseless in light of risk. If people could swallow their own pride everyone would benefit. Baseball is dangerous, but let’s control the things we can control to make things safer. Life is too precious.

At a minimum, raise the fence in front of the dugouts. I’d people actually saw the damage done to Tanner Wiggins jaw, they’d change their minds. I know the doctor who did his surgery. Gruesome.

I've seen players knocked out from taking a line drive through a screen on the field and in the batting cage alike which knocked them out for a week. Pretty difficult to get hit by a golf ball, but I imagine it's happened to all of us at some point.

The SEC tournament is useless to us at this point. Without a single or double bye, there's little chance of winning anyway, and even winning it would likely not get us a host bid. It's days should be numbered but since the SEC office is up Alabama's stinking carcass, they will avoid cancelling it as long as possible.

Why would they ever cancel it? All the SEC coaches talk about how great a venue and opportunity it is for their teams
