NIL and the portal has change recruiting. It is IMPERATIVE you get experienced Power 5 Conference Athletes added each cycle to your roster that can contribute immediately. Unless the high school kid is at a talent level of a David Sanders, and can play right away, programs need to reduce the number of scholarships/NIL money on kids that will stand on the sideline for one season and leave once the portal opens. In my mind, Collegiate transfers/portal additions have become SIGNIFICANTLY more important and newsworthy than signing some kid out of high school. Welcome to the new world of college athletics.
Money is in the coffers for DGG. This kid wasn't a needle mover.I won’t lie, I don’t even really mind this. High school recruiting will always still be important to a degree but let’s be honest here, spend the big bucks on high school kids that have a probability to transfer before they even see the field here or spend it on more proven talent out of the portal going forward? I don’t mind keying in on a handful of “must gets” in the high school rank, but yeah I don’t mind the approach of having a set limit with the majority of these kids going forward. This kid trended here for a while and is in Knox, I would assume Clemsons offer is much more to be blunt. And so be it. We won’t be outbid for DGG, that I can assure you.
Yet we’ve taken some let’s hope they develop over three years types already for next year and we are near the top for very few top 100s.Unless it’s a hands down significant contributor from day one I hope our coaching staff never overpays what they deem to be the value of a high school player whether he’s local or not.
Save the money for another HS player or portal transfer. The odds of a player moving on are too high.
That’s not a slam dunk either, as we’re currently seeing. As Texas Tech is.Would rather throw our money at portal kids, than pay some kid for a couple of years to sit the bench and develop, only to up and leave for more money later.
The 1991 class was the year I started following recruiting as well. Heath Shuler, Aaron Hayden, James Stewart, Ben Talley…that was a fantastic class that set the stage for a great run.I don't understand how some people on here don't understand that some of these players are just in it for how much money they can get. I understand we all want to make money, with that said. Also, I've followed recruiting since 1991 and my philosophy has always been; either you're with us or you're against us and that will never change with me personally.
No it doesn’t matter. It’s just another guy. The whole oh he is an instate guy is pretty meaningless. We let Dano come into our backyard and steal him. Good God dude. Maybe @vols 30 has room on the whiny complaining stoop for you.Hopefully Clemson sucks this year and he reconsiders.
Losing kids like this does matter. We just Dabo come into our backyard and steal him. Weak.

I actually kinda disagree with you. But the fact that you’re not even allowed to have the opinion that Jarrell is good now is what makes VN VN"Just another guy" . You're really trying hard to convince yourself it doesn't matter. No one buys your "I'm not concerned" posts
Definitely think it was a money thing. I haven't been able to relocate the tweet since I saw it but a Miami insider had posted on X a few days ago that Clemson came in with a $$$ offer above both Tennessee and Miami last minute.Weird. Cant be a money thing. Hopefully Dabos cult ritual wears off sooner rather than later. He’ll come around.

Also sounds like us and Miami may have viewed him as more of a LB prospect where as Clemson was recruiting him at safety. Part of me wondered if the reason we let Simon walk was cause we had stolen the momentum back with Chandler and liked his frame/upside at LB more.
Still a LONG way till signing day but sure hope we can turn things around for what's a really talented in-state class.
True .... and I like that Heupel doesn't prioritize the local recruits, like Butch Jones did, just because he thinks it looks bad to lose them to places like Clemson.Money is in the coffers for DGG. This kid wasn't a needle mover.
