Bad whiff, no way around it

Unless it’s a hands down significant contributor from day one I hope our coaching staff never overpays what they deem to be the value of a high school player whether he’s local or not.

Save the money for another HS player or portal transfer. The odds of a player moving on are too high.

The optics of finishing 2nd for two local kids, one a legacy, within a week, aren’t great— I agree.

But as I was telling folks here as late as last mid-June… it’s so early, and this is what Heupel does best. He’s an excellent administrator and program manager.

I’m pretty sure we’ll circle back to at least one of these guys.

NIL and the portal has change recruiting. It is IMPERATIVE you get experienced Power 5 Conference Athletes added each cycle to your roster that can contribute immediately. Unless the high school kid is at a talent level of a David Sanders, and can play right away, programs need to reduce the number of scholarships/NIL money on kids that will stand on the sideline for one season and leave once the portal opens. In my mind, Collegiate transfers/portal additions have become SIGNIFICANTLY more important and newsworthy than signing some kid out of high school. Welcome to the new world of college athletics.

I won’t lie, I don’t even really mind this. High school recruiting will always still be important to a degree but let’s be honest here, spend the big bucks on high school kids that have a probability to transfer before they even see the field here or spend it on more proven talent out of the portal going forward? I don’t mind keying in on a handful of “must gets” in the high school rank, but yeah I don’t mind the approach of having a set limit with the majority of these kids going forward. This kid trended here for a while and is in Knox, I would assume Clemsons offer is much more to be blunt. And so be it. We won’t be outbid for DGG, that I can assure you.
