That mentality in football sucks just as much, if not more. Whiners, chicken littles, woeful weasels.

I think rankers may use the player's high school ranking.

When Dalton Knecht portholed here to become the "SEC Player of the Year" was he listed as a 0-star? Probably. He was 0-star out of high school. But the "SEC Defensive Player of the Year" that season was different. Zakai Zeigler was a high-school 0-star, of course. But he never portholed.

I just checked and it turns out that several publications did portal rankings one-third way through the basketball season, others at the mid-point, some near the end of regular season, some even during the NCAA tourney. 🤣 Whether that aimed to cover over their bad preseason rankings, Idk. Knecht was highly sought after with big names like Duke, NC, and Kansas as well as has-beens like Kentucky finishing as failed suitors.

I do believe the other part of this fanbase is the best fanbase in sports however.

There are several highly regarded players that don't even have a rating. They just don't try.
