2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

I agree. With the team he has put together, it may not be nearly as important that we try match everyone size for size. Just go out and play a relatively uptempo game, and the big cedars will tire out and simply become relative non-factors in the game. These 6'9" guys should be able to get down the court along with everyone else, and the big tall guys won't even be able to make it downcourt before the play is over.

At least, that's the idea that I'm warming up to. Scorers or not, some of our bigs seem pretty athletic, and capable of making up for some of their lack of height.
I’m warming up to that idea as well. But I sure did enjoy out-rebounding opponents by 10 per game this year. Nevermind that our big guys couldn’t seem to put those rebounds back in the basket.

I just worry we will get to the sweet 16 and face a team with 2 athletic 7-footers and no one to match up with them.

That rebounding difference was largely our bigs missing in close and getting boards. Our defensive rebounding wasn't great.

I know it's the NBA, but plenty of modern day teams win playing fast paced basketball with great shooters.

2025 Pacers top 10 rotation minutes had 1 player over 6'9.

2024 Celtics top 7 played all 6'8 and under.

2022 Warriors top 11 all 6'9 and under.

Having multiple 7 footers isn't necessary at all. Rubin is pretty much a 7 footer and Lue and Brown are both extremely long. It'd be nice to have another one, but if you run teams ragged, drill 3s, and cause TOs it's not a big deal.

FWIW, I think Stokes is going Kansas.
I’ve got a hunch it’s going to be uk. Feels like they are throwing him a desperation offer now that they know oweh/seniors can’t come back. Their roster is bottom half of the sec as is and slim pickings are left in the portal. Pope gets fired at the end of the year if he can’t pull stokes

Also, re: the Bigs vs. No Bigs debate, besides the fact that Rubin, Brown, Lue, and whoever else we bring in are no slouches on either end of the court, I don't think people fully understand how ridiculous our firepower is from our guards + small 4.

Hill: 15 PPG | 47/37/84
Ames: 17 PPG | 46/38/85
Lundblade: 16 PPG | 43/41/93 (mostly 3s)
Harris: 21 PPG | 44/33/78 (insane volume)
Haralson: 16 PPG | 52/20/67 (great FG%)

Adding the fact that Hill, our primary ball handler, doesn't turn the ball over and Harris/Haralson (especially Harris) can rebound at a high rate... we are in for a shock with what our offense looks like.

Assuming they all mesh - CRB knows what he's doing - I'm not worried lol.

We will never have seen this much shooting prowess on a Barnes team. The offense should hum. Biggest questions will be people buying in on defense, learning concepts, and how the bigs hold up.

but the last four NCAA champs have all followed this formula: BALANCE with quality guards and a formidable frontcourt. Look at the pre-season top 10. All have formidable front courts. Only Arkansas seems a bit smallish, but they are extremely talented.
I don’t recall the teams from years 3 and 4 back, but UM this year and UF last year certainly fit what you’re saying. To win it all, it’s highly likely you need the balance. A F4 can happen without it, but the more balanced the more likely you are to make it. I do agree with that. Auburn a few years back was an example of not really having that strong inside presence but instead having a 5 that was a nightmare matchup for bigs as he would pop out and hit 3s or drive if the bigs tried to stop the 3. Hopefully, we get Harris and add one more decent big.

No complaining here, I just think Tennessee needs to add another big incase someone gets hurt or in foul trouble.

As far as formidable goes, I would say every UC, UM, and UF front court player listed was good-to-elite. My definition of formidable is if a player has what it takes to get drafted. All of championship teams listed had great balance 1 thru 5 and depth.

And those were just the championship teams listed in that post. We seem to either run into one of those teams, a team like Purdue with an ogre at center, or an outlier like Houston who had athletic forwards that knew how to constantly tap the ball out to their guards on misses, which seemed to be a complete surprise to whomever had the scout on our team for that game.

My hope is that Barnes and his staff learn from those games, which it seems like they do, and make the roster adjustments that are required to advance further in the tourney.

It could be ridiculous. Barnes has always been known for his defensive pressure and granted while there are alot of unknowns with this group, Barnes will make sure they guard. The sheer offensive pressure we put on teams to keep up, is what is so intriguing with this lineup. I mean literally everyone is a threat. Rubin and Lue more secondary threats but still capable. I doubt there will be many occasions when we play two traditional bigs at the same time unless we just have to match up for defensive purposes or where situations/mismatches are obvious. Otherwise spread the court, push tempo and let these players work.

Hill and Haralson's stats in particular from last were very productive in the 25-26 minutes per game that they played and neither VCU nor Notre Dame played a quick tempo. Of the newbies only Lue played on a squad which actually played up tempo. Folks worry about shot volume, but many of these guys including Juke really had to be primary scoring options for their respective teams. With this group, no one has to feel compelled to force anything and can trust that the extra pass will result in a better scoring opportunity. For any game, we could have 1 of 5 guys who "may" be the leading scorer for that game.

Just say you got paid more. Don’t act like you got treated poorly and needed to leave a toxic culture.

Amen. I say don’t let the door hit you kid…production over retention! I need it on a shirt!!!!

Also sounds like he was set going somewhere else and then had to pivot to Texas. No one really buys that story considering the culture at UT and how much time he ended up getting.
