That’s definitely encouraging. I didn’t know he could shoot. I thought we were looking for more a defender and not really scoring at that spot tho?

I wanted Armani Mighty as a depth piece. I was hoping the Earl Grant connection would bring him in.

I would settle for Luke Bamgboye, Bowen or either of the LSU guys.

75th percentile is respectable but definitely not great imo. I bet that percentile drops if you are able to filter out everyone shorter than 6’11” too 🤷‍♂️

I think some are underestimating the value Dai Dai brings. He wants the ball with five seconds on the clcok - down one.

Plus, Ament ekevated his game in what, mid Jan? And then he got injured.

Because there's a 26 minute per game, 6.2 ppg void in your scoring opportunities calculation with Bishop Boswell leaving. Estrella: 18.3 mins, 10 ppg

Incoming guys:
Lundblade: 34.1 mins, 15.6 ppg
Ames: 31.9 mins, 16.9 ppg
Haralson: 26.7 mins, 16.2 ppg
Hill Jr: 25 mins, 15.0 ppg
Rubin 29.7 mins, 11.3 ppg

Lundblade and Ames's mpg and therefore their points per game are sure to come down as they'll be rotating the guard spots.

I think it probably makes more sense to wait until the roster is filled out for your exercise, but I agree. Once we can take an educated guess as to who plays where and how much, we can take a stab at offensive impact. And I do agree, Ames and Lundblade are likely to canabalize each other's minite and opportunities relative to what they averaged at their previous stops.

This isn’t my conversation but don’t underestimate Barnes ability to improve defense. That’s one MAIN reason Lundblade committed to Barnes- defense. Most coaches don’t teach defense as much as Barnes. Most of D is will but there is a skill to it.

This young man will be much better on D than last season. If not, he will ride the pine.

Of the guys noted in the shared list, based on small sample size of videos I prefer Hastings and Lue. We need 2 IMO.

He definitely absorbed contact and patiently continued the shot at the rim really well. Oddly enough Chris Lofton was famed for his three point shooting. Bruce Pearl however made him work on his moves to the basket realizing him drawing free throws was a huge asset considering Chris' percentages. By Pearl's 2nd season, Chris Junior year he was very good at the same things you see in Gillespie after going into the trees absorbing contact and still finding a way to make the basket.

Really not concerned about scoring or past impact that much out of front court depth. We need size and length out of that spot, someone with the natural tools to defend the basket. Barnes can get them right on defense technically. I’d be sorely disappointed if we bring in an undersized, utility type big man without someone with the potential to be a rim protector.

I agree. I actually like Lue (if he’s the guy) visiting today, but still think we need a lengthy true 5 whether it’s to start or come off the bench. Not saying he has to be 7 foot but someone who will challenge shots at the rim like Okpara did so well

I’d add Chandler as well. But he didn’t have to take as many in traffic because he smoked so many guys off the dribble, so he went uncontested a lot. Also had an elite floater.

JG I would say was quite good at taking contested shots at the rim though. He made a LOT of tough shots where he hit the floor after.

Lofton was a wizard on the fast break. He would throw high shots off the backboard with a defender all over him and it would go in every time. A lot of people forget that about him.

I’m not really interested in debating the definition of “great” either. The numbers are interesting and I think they kinda agree with my impression from watching the games. That little jump hook is reasonably reliable and very valuable when you have 2-3 other guys on the floor who either can’t or won’t score, but it’s not some kind of super power either.
