Scripture — Gospel of John 1:1 (NIV)
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
Reflection
John does not begin with a manger or a genealogy. He begins before all of it—before time, before creation, before anything that can be measured or managed.
“In the beginning was the Word.”
Not created. Not arriving later. Already there.
And not distant, either—with God, yet fully God.
John is naming something foundational: reality itself is not random or silent. At the center of everything is a Word—meaning, order, intention, presence. Later, he will reveal that this Word is not an idea but a person—Jesus Christ.
This matters more than it first appears.
It means your life is not unfolding inside chaos. It is unfolding inside a story that began with God Himself—steady, intentional, unshaken by time.
When things feel uncertain or undefined, this verse quietly re-centers everything: the beginning is not confusion. It is Christ.
And if He stands at the beginning, He can be trusted with what comes next.
Prayer
Lord, You were present before anything I can see or understand. When my thoughts feel scattered or my direction unclear, remind me that You are not new to this moment. You are the beginning, and You are still here. Anchor me in Your truth so I don’t chase meaning in lesser things. Help me trust that my life is held within Your design, not left to chance. And teach me to follow You—not just as an idea, but as the living Word who leads me forward. Amen.
