Vandy Discussion [split from portal thread]

Vandy having a good 12 months doesn't magically make them better than us in the long term..... I know losing to them drives our fans insane, but let's try to keep some perspective here
Exactly and Vols did make elite 8 and Barnes at UT himself has more tourney wins than Vandy has in their history.

There’s no way we’ve pitched anything. An agent may have said here’s what you can get. But, it’s not as if They’ve met with Barnes. He’s not in the portal and it sure looks like he’s not entering.

If anything they are slow playing the “no” to throw a wrench in UTs other avenues. Vandy has a lot more money than most on here want to admit. I could absolutely see them leading on our staff to keep us from getting the next best option.
This weird fear of Vandy in our fanbase is weird

It is concerning that they seem to have found a template for athletic success in the NIL era across the athletic department and we haven’t. It took them a few years and some good hires to get going but now they’ve passed us.

"Passed us"? Jesus you people are weak. They pull decent football and basketball seasons out of a bag in the same year for the first time in forever and suddenly they've passed us.

Yup. NIL has given Vandy more of a chance, and I'm glad for that as someone who almost went there. We were just on campus for the FCS Championship, and it's such a great place.

But worrying about Vandy or any other program is silly. We just need to take care of our business.

A lot of the new fans in our fanbase are weak betas..... the people that raised me into Vol fandom during the early 90's would've laughed their asses off at them and at Vandy

I disagree. in the pre-NIL era, yeah a team could get "lucky" and have a once-in-a-lifetime year with a special player. You let them have their good year and then it's back to normal.

But in the post-NIL era where you can use all your money to just copy and paste the same strategy over and over you are going to get way better results and a much stronger program.

Anybody that thinks "Vanderbilt will just go away" is willingly ignorant to how much money they could bring to bear on college athletics when academic standards no longer matter.

You realize athletes still have to be admitted to the schools they're transferring to, right? Are you under the delusion that someone can skate into Vanderbilt with a dogsh*t track record?

I mean they’re currently better than us in every sport we both compete in with high level coaches. We made it farther than them in March madness but head to head went in their favor. Totally blew us out in neyland which just doesn’t happen in this rivalry, ever.

Do you think that dumb@ss Diego Pavia was a stellar student??? He was a graduate student with years of eligibility left. Vanderbilt let him in to play football.

So your galaxy brain would switch their season with ours, if I'm reading this correctly?

I mean they do have lots of money and have obviously decided to start "playing the game" a little bit, but if they don't see a legit return on investment, they'll go right back to donating that money to academics.

Also, their hospital is one of the best in the country. Will never say a bad word about the people that work there

Well, between the two of you, only one can say he was admitted to Vanderbilt. ;)

I don’t think you fully comprehend what the phrase “Passed us” means or you’re just really bad at trolling.

Either way, you’re wrong.
