2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

FWIW, Jon Reed said last night that UNC & Mike Malone are now involved with Tanner and that they are an equal threat to Tennessee.

If you have a problem with the best coach Tennessee basketball has ever had, then go screw yourself and cheer for Bama. You are a troll anyway and always have been.
Another sensitive snowflake! I have no problem with Barnes, who is the best coach in TN history as you correctly state. He is not offense-centric with big men. Nor is he above discussion on a fan site meant for discussing all things good or bad.

I have a dumb idea but nothing is happening so I thought I’d share. Since wings are the cheapest according to Jeff Goodman to get elite ones (was like 2 million for top 40 guys which was like half the price of big men and 2/3 of PGs), would it be best to do a moneyball thing and play with like 3-4 transfer wings as starters that are elite? Aka would a team with 3-4 “wings” starting and doing small ball work?

The downsides would be rebounding for sure, but if you had 4 guys who shot 40% from 3 or were elite at driving, maybe that would make up for that deficiency. You could do the whole 5 out offense idea. Losing the shot volume battle is probably too big of a deal for it to work though.

On Basilio's blog this morning regarding Juke Harris:

"He's visiting Michigan this weekend.. Not going to lie to you.. It's not the best sign in the world. He's going to attend Michigan's National Championship celebration. Larry Ellison has turned Michigan Hoops into Kentucky of the Big 10 all of a sudden. Meanwhile Kentucky feels like Nebraska football ... But I digress. Here's the deal. Tennessee wanted to be the first visit of Harris. Not going to sugarcoat it here ... This is not positive news. Will the Vols be willing to overpay for Harris if they end up mano a mano with Michigan for Harris. He's going to command in the $5 million range."

They're going after a player that has played 23 mpg over three seasons at a mid major and that number was bumped up bc he played 30 mpg this year. He's a good player, but Estrella was the most valuable on/off player on the team by a noticeable margin. People have a right to be upset over losing the best player on the team after being told the program is going all in
If Estrella had shown the ability to get and remain healthy, they'd have been more inclined to try and reach an agreement with him. The injury issue was too big a risk/unknown to pay what, in all likelihood, was a rather large NIL asking price.

In addition, we never really got to see the consistent production/performances that led some to see him as an NBA talent. Barnes did the only thing he could. Maybe Michigan sees him as depth? Maybe they're in a better position to roll the dice? Wish the kid well, but his time here was mostly potential and wishing. No offense to the kid.

I would be shocked if we wait until May for a decision. There's signing people and then there's handshakes. This is not to say the CRB is going to break any rules, but I'd bet that's SOP for most big programs.
And I doubt even a signature means what it used to. Pure college sports anarchy.

You and I are dinosaurs that still believe in the silly notion of following the "rules" when clearly there are none anymore.
College coaches have never followed the rules, there have always been ways of back channelling. It's just easier now with agents.

Yet JP managed 18 minutes per game this season, has a major injury risk history in the worst spot for a big man, his foot, and his defense is suspect, with his free throw shooting getting worse each year as a cherry on top. He also fouls at a high rate.
All an opposing team needs to do is to get JP to switch onto a guard on the perimeter in an ISO. That guard is likely to blow by him, and/or get fouled in the process. His foot injury made him slower laterally, in my opinion.

Juke Harris and Michigan, Tanner and UNC… the only advantage we might have over those schools is to pay more than they are willing to pay. If we aren’t willing to pony up and instead settle for the best bang for our buck, that’s fine, but at some point, you have to put your money where your mouth is or else all the talk of buying our way into a.Final Four is just that - talk.

It’s easy to say upfront that a player is not worth X amount of money, until that player is a key contributor to another team making a FF or NC appearance. Sure, there’s a possibility we might get lucky with lesser players, but past results say that is highly unlikely. Will we finally do what it takes to make it to the next level?

My one question regarding JP is if May possibly has plans to turn him into a stretch 5, at least in certain alignments. If JP has visions of playing at the next level, being a back to the basket big who isn't a true rim protector isn't the answer, but a rim-running 5's who can stretch the floor are gold in the NBA.

Possible that JP was sold on that by May, where he wouldn't get that opportunity here? Just a thought.

Perhaps Barnes feels that Burg will progress enough to handle pg duties and Tanner will just be icing on the
cake if we can get him late. Just have to trust the staff but I really have reservations in our doing to the pg position
the same thing that we did last season with the 2 position. Could come back to bite us.
There is genuinely no way you believe Burg will be our point guard 😂
