Also, the constant references to Cooper’s demeanor are unfair. Her demeanor is not necessarily indicative of her competitive nature, pride, loyalty or anything of the like. And some of the comments and expectations are borderline micro aggressions. This is in part why coaches like Coach Yo, Dawn Staley, etc are so important and resonate so deeply as both role models for young women as well as people who deeply understand things that some simply won’t.
Players are people. These are young people. And what Talaysia Cooper has dealt with and is actively dealing with is no joke. It’s easy to sit on the sidelines and judge, assume, blame etc with little idea of what someone is carrying in addition to putting on a uniform. How many people have been offered Coop level money and left it on the table for the opportunity to pursue their personal best? As a young, developing human being, she still deserves to be happy, supported and at peace - even if she was horrible at TN. Which she wasn’t.
Nobody has to support her but attacking her or wishing her failure etc. Smh.
As much as we love TN, there are bigger things than basketball. This is their life!
