Here’s the reality many of you don’t want to face…

Our fielding all over the field cost us a series win against Vandy. This is not a good Vandy team, but we look even worse. If we don’t clean up the basic fundamentals of the game, we will finish in the lower third of the SEC.
I don’t disagree fielding was a problem but the substitutions in the 9th with the hit batter and a grand slam didn’t help either. Lots of blame to go around. I’m gonna hope as a collective they figure it out but you could be right on point about where we finish. Even that wouldn’t be the end of the world in fact maybe that would have been a realistic expectation pre season.

In sports there are special situations and circumstances where everything—for whatever reason—fits perfectly. Right coach, right time, right players, excited fan base, and an organic swagger that’s special and leads to significant winning as well as an unparalleled pride in what’s been created. That’s exactly what happened with Vitello at Tennessee. Hell, he knew what was going on here and it‘s what made moving on to an MLB manager difficult whereas in most cases it’s a gimme decision. Unfortunately, he despised our AD and that more than anything pushed him out the door.

What went with him? The swagger and TN being a national power in baseball. As BB King so eloquently sang, “The Thrill is Gone”.

You guys can discuss the current coach and team all you wish, but the truth is it’s not going to be the same and it may not ever be. That’s why Danny White failed us all in not doing EVERYTHING possible to keep Vitello here.

I’m sure some of you were push back, but in your heart you know I’m speaking the truth.

Yeah that is just dumb lol Early returns suggest Tennessee made a poor replacement hire and many of the “experts” on this board criticizing the performance thus far were the same ones demanding Danny White hire Josh Elander without a coaching search. There should have been a real coaching search now there will have to be one if the team keeps performing like this long term

Please show me what actual evidence you have that shows he did not. You are talking the dream of pretty much every coach that exists. If they don't have the ambition to coach at the highest level possible, then their motivation and drive should be questioned. There may have been absolutely nothing short of nuking a big area of campus and building a state-of-the-art stadium for the team. Not very practical and definitely not going to be completed this year. There is an extremely high chance he would jump at the opportunity to be THE FIRST college baseball coach to jump to the big leagues and absolutely NOTHING would change his mind. Maybe you should send him a text and explain how disappointed you are in Danny White to have let him escape.

The TV vs DW saga is starting to sound like a soap opera episode 😂. Surely...most reasonable fans (especially the ones who understand baseball) KNEW transitioning to a new staff regardless of their pedigree would result in a drop-off. We should have taken a lesson from Texas A&M a couple years back. I personally think the BaseVols will be ok. I guess the part that bothers me...."fans" using Volnation to vent their frustration when taking all this stuff so personal. Baseball is unlike any other sport. Pitching is confidence and deception. Defense is repetition and positioning (the shift has killed us several times but sabermetrics i guess) and hitting is understanding pitching after the fundamentals are learned. We have several extremely talented arms, multiple aggressive hitters etc and I fully expect them to rebound well. After all...we still play in the SEC so buckle up and TRY to enjoy it.

I trust CLow more than any sports journalist, but especially in regards to anything he posits about UT. I recall his honoring a certain request by Lofton, at considerable professional risk.

Still, just an opinion, as informed as it may be. It is very possible that Danny White is just a miserable, unapproachable *******… that may color his opinion.

Just tossing out a few thoughts… I’ve never walked in either of their shoes.
I take C-Low’s opinion on baseball with a little more regard, given his familial connection to the program.

This is a dumb take. Maybe some coaches like the development more than the strategy, which favors college. Some may like the idea of forming relationships and “picking” their own team, i.e. recruiting vs managing a team they have little say in. Some may not want to spend 82 nights a year on the road in a hotel room. Some may not like dealing with grown men pouting over or playing for contracts. Within the last 12 yrs+/- Coach K and Hurley had opportunities to coach in the NBA and both turned it down; is there anyone dumb enough to question their drive to succeed?

Yeah, we lost a great coach to the Major Leagues. You think money was an issue? Get a clue brotha.
No money was not an issue; he’s making all of $500K more in a state that’s infinitely more expensive to live in so he de facto took a paycut.

I think these things is what will bring him back to college. He loved recruiting and building relationships with players and families. He loves developing players. He just loves the college atmosphere. I think he will be back in college soon. He, like most strong competitors, wanted to try to win at the highest level.

The lack of intellect by some TN fans is concerning. Tony didn’t leave b/c of AD White. Idk if he liked or disliked White, but he left b/c of an opportunity to be a coach in big leagues. Period! Nothing about White. The rumors that ran wild regarding NIL are laughable.
From someone far outside Knoxville, seems odd that Danny White would spend $100 million dollars on the stadium and then only spend nickels on NIL which would lead to losing which would lead to an empty stadium. Wouldn’t make sense for anyone to decide to run things that way. Give the new coach at least two years.Seems like spending $1 million dollars on a new house and having a rusty 30 year-old Yugo with no back bumper sitting in the driveway.

If that happens, do you think he would return to Knoxville or go somewhere else?

I'm guessing somewhere else. I don't know about Arkansas but I think there may have been bridges burnt in the process to come back to UT. I would hope so but... He is one you either love or don't like, btw if you are wondering I love him. Didn't always agree with what he did but loved how he treated my son.

I think his greatest gift was finding talent that others overlooked. He was a relentless scout with an eye for recognizing potential.

It’ll be Arkansas if the situation is right.

I was hoping brocky top would stay banished to a closed forum… guess not.

😂😂😂 I’ll be here if for no other reason to irk you.

BTW, it’s baffling why some of you get angry just because someone knows more about a situation than you do.

I think we all know tony was Tennessee baseball. No one came to play here for Tennessee.
I disagree. If they didn’t come here to play for Tennessee, they would have transferred out the moment Elander was announced. It’s ok for people to feel like things are different- well because they are… but let’s give them a chance to figure it out before we go quitting on this team, and the program. That’s not who we are as a fanbase. Let’s not be like the Arkansas cry babies with no natty. 😜 keep your heads up high. The best is yet to come with this team. GO Vols!

What is scary, to me, is what I am seeing in field generalship. The decisions/no decisions being made. Guys are young or aren't as talented as they have been rated factors in, too.
