Here’s the reality many of you don’t want to face…

He left because he got offered a historic once in a lifetime opportunity that he never would've gotten again had he turned it down. That's really all it is no matter how much you want to push an anti-DW agenda.
Danny and Tony didn’t like each other. DW is very demanding as an AD. He and Caldwell have butted heads.

Danny wasn’t the reason Tony left…:but Danny wasn’t going to do anything extra to keep him and is ok with him being gone. In fact Josh is in a tough situation. DW wants a clean slate….Josh was only choice because of timing of Tony leaving….if he continues this mind numbing stupidity of coaching decisions then DW can make his own hire…which I’m not sure is a good thing no matter how clueless Elander is.

Tony can be pissed but the facts are DW gave TV the highest salary, a new stadium AND according to one publication(I forgot the exact one) the highest baseball budget in the country in 2025.

Tony is gonna grow up a lot in SF.

The lack of intellect by some TN fans is concerning. Tony didn’t leave b/c of AD White. Idk if he liked or disliked White, but he left b/c of an opportunity to be a coach in big leagues. Period! Nothing about White. The rumors that ran wild regarding NIL are laughable.
Though it is a fact that AD White gave more money to women's basketball and less to the baseball program and, of course, Vitello was not happy.
To me, that's an idiot move by White. You do whatever you can to keep a proven, national championship coach who has created a national power from scratch.
I want to see the Lady Vols return to prominence as well, but slighting our strongest athletic program was not the way to do it.

Again, nobody here has offered any verifiable factual evidence to support any of those statements.

Who was the catalyst for closing the new deal with Adidas? Where did that individual tell White more funds needed to go before helping close the deal? What did CTV think of where more money was going to be funneled instead of baseball? Do you know any of those answers?

Someone had to step up for next. I think Josh will be good for this next era of BaseVols. Imma bet we lose another game or two this year… and the unruly mob gets louder. Phuqq ‘em.

It certainly looked like an unruly mob coached that 9th inning yesterday, that’s for sure.

Anybody that would keep a college job when he had a chance at an MLB job would be a fool. This aint on Danny.
100% agree. The opportunity was too big to pass. A little more money, and a much higher ceiling. Gets to compete at the highest level. No more recruiting or "re-recruiting", NIL, boosters, etc..

DW could've hatched a genie out of his arse to grant wishes and it still wouldn't have mattered.

Patience. Generally, not one of VolNation’s redeeming qualities. It exists in pockets.

I recall showing up around here just as Covid began to wind down. A pretty nice sized group of regulars, but few others. Maybe I just didn’t notice due to low SNR. Probably because so few really checked in from the other forums.

My striking memory was how patient the”noobs” were with those that may have still been a little wet behind the ears beisbol wise, but eager to learn, or learn more, as the case may be. Analytics was about five or six years into an explosion and Corbin was still a b!tch.

Was just feeling grateful and wanted to say thanks to all that welcomed me and helped to knock off my rough edges.
Regardless of what others say, you're a good egg chuckie. You don't take this stuff seriously and you have fun with it.

Having said that, I think most older fans see this staff and roster for what it is and will be patient. Personally, I really, really want Elander to make it. From Delmonico, I saw patience slowly evolve into apathy. Would hate to see history repeat....assuming I might live that long. This program has been resurrected much like a banished poster. Too much hard work by so many to let it wither again. As fans we can really impact things in that regard. Turn out and turn it up this coming week. Gotta help get these newb coaches and players feeling welcome and comfortable, no?

I don’t know anyone on the Vols staff but I know a couple of high school coaches pretty well. I know there are good in state pitchers this year specifically Siegel High School and possibly Watertown. So hopefully someone is on top of that.

I follow the Oak Ridge High School team pretty close. Will be checking in this afternoon for their game. Don’t know if Teasley will be pitching or not but do know they are pretty good. They have a great amatuer broadcast crew. Meet me at yhe “High School Sports” forum. I’ll provide a youtube link. 🔗

Danny deserves scrutiny for losing Coach V but the doom is premature.
Agreed, this squad is a play or two away from having 2 very good series wins to open conference play.
If we were getting our ass handed to us, I would be worried, but this young team very easily could’ve(probably should’ve)won the series in Athens and the Vandy series was a case of the baseball gods humbling a young, talented team.
Let’s revisit this thread at seasons end and then we can fairly critique the season.
As for now, I’m in mid season form and am ready to see these guys take the field again!

CTV got swept in the opening series and SF writers are already saying the honeymoon is over. He won't last long in SF. Now we wait and see who lasts longer, him or E.

Re: OP
... Couldn't agree more and you said it better than I could.
I posted in the "moments that changed the Vols", something or another thread, similar sentiments and had to deflect a few shots from ADDW sympathizers.
I hope we're both wrong, but I absolutely feel like the magic that UT & Voltello created is gone, possibly for them both. We'll see, and I hope this take ages like vinegar. I'll have my crow thawed by then...

I wish this stupidity would cease. Danny didn’t lose TV, the chance to manage a MLB team did. If we need to blame anyone, it should be Buster Posey for pursuing Tony.
So you think CLow is completely clueless?

“I think for Tennessee fans, they were always hopeful that Tony would stay," said Low. "But being in the major leagues, that's quite an opportunity for a college coach to get that type of opportunity and really be a pioneer. And I think over the last couple years, if you're inside and sort of know what's going on, this probably wasn't just a complete surprise to a lot of people -- certainly [people] close to the program -- that there had not been what I would call the best relationships between Tony and Danny White, the Tennessee AD. And I think when you combine all of it -- I don't think it was just one thing -- but when you combine all of it, what happened yesterday, happened. "I know, Danny White said it was a proud day. I disagree. It was a sad day, because I don't think this had to happen. I think there was a way for this not to happen, and it happened. I think that's what people are most upset, sad, and angry [about] -- all the different emotions.“

I trust CLow more than any sports journalist, but especially in regards to anything he posits about UT. I recall his honoring a certain request by Lofton, at considerable professional risk.

Still, just an opinion, as informed as it may be. It is very possible that Danny White is just a miserable, unapproachable *******… that may color his opinion.

Just tossing out a few thoughts… I’ve never walked in either of their shoes.

Oh ok. Thought you were referring to my response. I’m not an insider- don’t claim to be. But, I have a friend who works @ Spyre. So he knows about NIL, contracts, coaches, etc.

I won’t say there was a love loss b/t Danny white and TV, but white wasn’t the reason TV left. White allowed TV to play a big part in the stadium renovations. And, Tony was involved w/ NIL too.
Ask your friend what’s different with Spyre now that the NCAA settlement has gone into effect and Danny White has stated that we intend to follow the NCAA’s NIL rules, as if many schools do not.

It must be a lot different, but frankly no one seems to know or be allowed to say.

Not a single one of these Danny haters were screaming at Fulmer or Hart or Hamilton when Tennessee Baseball was god awful season after season. The reality is that most of the drive by baseball "fans" all of a sudden started "caring" when Tennessee strung together a few good seasons.

Will do. Good question

I always assumed White was referring to “tampering” when he commented on nil .

There is a % allowed from the schools revenue….

In sports there are special situations and circumstances where everything—for whatever reason—fits perfectly. Right coach, right time, right players, excited fan base, and an organic swagger that’s special and leads to significant winning as well as an unparalleled pride in what’s been created. That’s exactly what happened with Vitello at Tennessee. Hell, he knew what was going on here and it‘s what made moving on to an MLB manager difficult whereas in most cases it’s a gimme decision. Unfortunately, he despised our AD and that more than anything pushed him out the door.

What went with him? The swagger and TN being a national power in baseball. As BB King so eloquently sang, “The Thrill is Gone”.

You guys can discuss the current coach and team all you wish, but the truth is it’s not going to be the same and it may not ever be. That’s why Danny White failed us all in not doing EVERYTHING possible to keep Vitello here.

I’m sure some of you were push back, but in your heart you know I’m speaking the truth.
How can you say for most people leaving to MLB would be a gimmie but it was Danny's fault for not keeping him? What "is goin on here? that Tony knew? And what are you referring to when you say Tony despised Danny?

I don’t really care whether CTV left to chase a dream or because he had a beef with admin.

He’s gone. We have the coach, staff and players we got. Corbin versus a year 1 head coach and we held our own to the tune of two extra inning games and a 5 run lead, B9, in the 3rd game. There’s a learning curve. Hopefully Coach will figure it out, but, that’s the reality and there’s this…Elander is gonna be here for a minute.

GBO!!!
Our fielding all over the field cost us a series win against Vandy. This is not a good Vandy team, but we look even worse. If we don’t clean up the basic fundamentals of the game, we will finish in the lower third of the SEC.
