Coach deserves one more year to right the wrong !

Yeah, looking back at the season we really had only two really good wins. One against Alabama who had been looking strong, and one against Kentucky, who was missing their center and top rebounder in Teonni Key.

We also had two solid wins: At Stanford and against a Mississippi State team that eventually also beat Kentucky. We had one other good game and that was the 2-pt loss to Texas.

Other than those four wins, only two of which were considered “really good wins,” we were pretty mediocre this season. Of course we trounced the Winthrops and Southern Indiana-level teams to get a lot of wins early, but interspersed we saw that anyone of any serious competition handled us easily.

It was just a tough year for Lady Vol basketball.
We also lost to both Mississippi State and Alabama the second time we played them, and lost to Texas A&M.

We should have hired Lawson. She has been hyper successful at anything she has done. One of the smartest players ever to play for the LV.
Kara made the mistake of speaking the truth about Tennessee’s abysmal record of hiring Black coaches. She will never be forgiven for that by huge portions of the Tennessee power structure and fanbase.

I agreed with her 100%, but at least 40% of the people *I* know, typically sensible people, thought she was way out of line to say that.

I don’t know if there’s enough money available to convince her to coach at UT after the way she was treated after simply pointing out facts.

A government full of pedophiles is thought more highly of by some people than a woman speaking easily verifiable facts. Go figure.

Lawson had less head coaching experience than Caldwell. Success at Duke doesn't necessarily translate to success elsewhere as Gail Goestenkors proved at Texas.

She also made enemies of the UT administration with her public comments while on the Board of Trustees. Agree with her views or not, she shouldn't have made those comments to the press.

Success at Dike also has nothing to do with whether you have success elsewhere. They won the ACC regualr seaon and tournament and now sit in the Sweet 16. Kara has been recruiting well and is a great representative of the school. She hasn't gotten past the Sweet 16 yet so the question is what is her ceiling? I doubt she would come. Duke is a pretty sweet job.

she went to the elite eight last year.

Do we know that she didn’t first make such comments privately?
It may have been a tactical choice following ladylike/gentlemanly hush hush discussion and subsequent inaction. There are times when upsetting the applecart is the only way to get things moving.

The player revolt rumor and the timing of it makes absolutely no sense. Supposedly they were winning and winning a lot when CKC said it happened.

If there was any player unrest the only timing that makes sense is after CKC threw them all under the bus with her comments.

I think something happened and folks on both sides are trying to save face or save their job.
As someone else pointed out, this still would've been after the UCLA and Louisville losses when the system led to layup after wide open layup for those teams.

I vote for one more year. Make some major adjustments and see what happens.
Sometimes good things happen when the back is against the wall.

I recall someone for which Kara played, upsetting an applecart or two… 🍎

Her first chance is to build a proper roster for the five out. Her system is still crap, but getting the right players for the five out will certainly help quite a bit. Having 23 to 30 percent three point shooter making 7 of 36 some games is not going to spell success in the SEC.
Will she be able to get five three point shooters 37 percent of better? We have to or were in for another terrible season.

Won’t it be her second chance? I think we all were under the assumption that all the players she signed would be right for the system since she literally said she recruited players that were right for her system.

But then, evidently, she forgot her system needed excellent shooters and at least one woman willing and capable of being a strong leader.

I guess we’ll just have to hope THIS time she remembers to check all the boxes, ‘cause you can’t assume players will magically become great shooters AFTER they sign, nor develop natural leadership qualities. Ya gotta know the recruits already have those qualities.

Pretty sure it was a matter of who could they could sign and not necessarily who they wanted. Although this class was very highly rated.

I hope that if White doesn't fire her April 1st, he doesn't give her a raise or an extension 'for recruiting purposes'. She certainly doesn't deserve either.

No recruit would be fooled by that. Everyone, including recruits and their agents, should know that she's on a short leash, extension or not.

She has definitely said a number of times something about the players needing to do “what they were recruited to do,” and I always took that to mean she thought she’d recruited players who fit her system. And I‘d swear I recalled something she said before the season that implied “now that we have players built for this system” or some such. Anyone else remember that?
