I think Cooper did the right thing for her team by answering the way she did. Of course she knew why, but when you and your team and staff have just spent the last week getting into the "it's a new season, leave the past in the past" mindset, you do not choose to re-open that wound in what would have been a major talking point tomorrow night if she had answered truthfully.
The reporter never should have asked the question. It was obviously intended to elicit a click-baiting response.
Good job, Coop!![]()
“I spoke to (Talaysia) Cooper in the locker room and she says she doesn't know why she was benched in the last game. Do you want to share anything more about your decision there?”Okay. I’m going back for a re-listen, maybe find the interview notes.
Transcription:
Well, that was what I was referring to. They followed up the question to Tay with the one to Kim, and Kim said “we’re going to move on.”“I spoke to (Talaysia) Cooper in the locker room and she says she doesn't know why she was benched in the last game. Do you want to share anything more about your decision there?”
Kim: "No, it was a coach's decision. We're going to move on, and I think we'll get a really good version of her tomorrow."
Couldn’t find a follow up question. Just a straight forward question based on hearsay, and a direct response. Was lookng forward to learning who had asked the question, who claimed to have spoken to Talaysia in the locker room, but they failed to identify themselves. I didn’t go back through the entire interview, but that was the first question asked without the press pool member identifying themselves, as requested. Didn’t recognize the voice either.
No link. The reporter only said he’d asked Cooper about it. An exchange between him and Cooper was pretty specific for him to have made it up, don’t you think? I don’t think he’d be making up a lie so easy to disprove.Gotcha. We got a link to the question to Tay? Is it published in an article? That’s where I’ve got a problem. Instigators…
Austin Price asked Coop and Kim, I believe.“I spoke to (Talaysia) Cooper in the locker room and she says she doesn't know why she was benched in the last game. Do you want to share anything more about your decision there?”
Kim: "No, it was a coach's decision. We're going to move on, and I think we'll get a really good version of her tomorrow."

I have never heard a coach say they have no Plan B. It's the most ludicrous thing I have heard her say yet (and she's said some pretty ludicrous things). I think it even tops "Quitter-gate". It basically confirms the fact she has no ability to make adjustments. For a coach at this level - especially at a storied program like Tennessee - it's unforgivable. She better do some serious soul-searching in the off-season, swallow the ego and develop Plan B, Plan C, etc. or she's toast. Her saying they shouldn’t have had a Plan B if the original game plan wasn’t working is INSANE to me!![]()
Just said on the other thread regarding this that CKC remains one of the most tone deaf individuals of all time. Whatever media help the AD has been giving her needs to be tripled down on this summer since we're stuck with her for at least another year. This latest statement probably does irreparable damage to our portal hopes.I have never heard a coach say they have no Plan B. Was with you up until that point. MO it was a exactly the right and obvious question and any reporter worth the title would have asked it after what happened the last game. Coop didn't have to answer it at all or could answer it any way she wanted. But asking it was absolutely the right thing to do and I'm really glad we finally have wbb beat reporters willing to ask tough questions. Especially given the horrible situation the program is in right now. Not every probing question is asked for click bait.I think Cooper did the right thing for her team by answering the way she did. I completely agree. For a long time women's sports were not treated with the seriousness of men's sports. That includes the kind of coverage that reporters were doing and the questions that were being asked. I have said privately before that Kim is lighting money on fire, but I do think people need to ask tough questions about the return on the investment this season. There is real money being spent, real impact on players lives, and other programs that lose out on those resources when we allocate them to women's basketball. Was with you up until that point. She says things went badly with Plan B.I have never heard a coach say they have no Plan B. It's the most ludicrous thing I have heard her say yet (and she's said some pretty ludicrous things). As noted on several occasions previously this year CKC seems to have a huge problem taking ownership and responsibility. She says things went badly with Plan B.
Could it be that her Plan B sucked? That it was just a variation on Plan A, which incidentally sucked?
The Queen is dead.As noted on several occasions previously this year CKC seems to have a huge problem taking ownership and responsibility.
Probably comes from defensiveness since everyone including CKC herself knows how far over her head she is.
But give her credit, she's won the day (if not much else) Her boss says she'll be staying ( he got no plan B either) and she's said she'll be doing much more of the same. Apparently the AD and many fans have bought in to the bad apple theory, so we're going to jettison a few who were rotting the barrel, replace them with a few more willing to use the same system, and everything will be fine according to them. Pray they're right.

Ya know, I joked a while back about wondering if she had some kind of personality disorder, but dayum. Maybe I was on to something! We all know self-confidence is a wonderful quality to have, but sometimes Kim sounds self-delusional.Just said on the other thread regarding this that CKC remains one of the most tone deaf individuals of all time. Whatever media help the AD has been giving her needs to be tripled down on this summer since we're stuck with her for at least another year. Kinda expected not much change in the offseason. Like glv stated, the narrative seems to be set that it’s just bad apples, and we just need new players. I’ve also said before that I don’t think she knows any other way to play or even wants to learn one. She’s going to go down with this ship and point to last year as why this can work at this level. Her take completely takes out other D1 coaches ability to adjust and beat it after seeing it a few times, but she seems to think that if the D2 coaches couldn’t outscheme her system that D1 coaches won’t either. This also bodes horribly for our hopes that there might be off-season changes.
@gllv98, this is just bizarre. Almost as bizarre as your claim that winning a national championship next year wouldn't change your mind about Kim. Not saying it would, you know you, I just think that's a bizarre claim. But, not taking responsibility? After her post-game presser? She took 100% responsibility. You may not like the conclusion she reached -- that it was having a plan B rather than that she had the wrong plan B, but come on! The woman was obviously disappointed and hurting, but she took responsibility and laid out the basic direction she intends to go. Say she's wrong, fine. Say she's dodging responsibility, that's your frustration with results speaking, not a fair judgment of the person. As noted on several occasions previously this year CKC seems to have a huge problem taking ownership and responsibility.
