2026 Vols Basketball Target List

Yeah, unless he just wants to be a starter getting starting minutes I'm not sure why you'd leave either...for a true freshman to come play for Barnes and rack up 8 mpg as a 3 star PG. But Fordham and Iona are both NY schools so if there is a strong draw to family there...ya never know really.

Unrelated...have you heard anything about Abram and why we've not seen him in a month?
I just think Henderson/Burg bring what he does and both have remaining eligibility and Abram doesn’t. Can’t play a bunch of guys in February & March, have to trim the rotation at some point.

His minutes started to trim after Syracuse game and then from there it's fluctuated from 15 minutes to 10 to 8 to 4 to nothing. Also Cade got hurt around Syracuse/IL. It's quite possible that Barnes was forced to play a different rotation. Burg/Henderson seem consistent.. but I will say the Amari Evans took more of Abrams minutes than anything.

Barnes needs to go after a Top PG freshman or portal. I don't think Henderson is sticking around. Boswell will stick with the 2. Burg will be our PG moving forward IMO.

Ive seen several posters say they believe Henderson isn't sticking around?

What is this based on? Looks like his Playing time would increase next year
Not a forgone conclusion but the coach that recruited him to Fordham where he was originally signed is now at Iona, which is much closer to home, so there’s a thought that he goes back home and walks into a 35mpg starting spot

I thought he was from Richmond? Technically, that is closer to Iona than Knoxville, but not exactly close.

Or was he from New York originally?

Idk why I was thinking NY originally, you’re correct in that he’s from Virginia originally

I only know that because I'm in Richmond and thoughte it was awesome to have someone from Richmond playing for the Vols (I believe that's a first). But as much as kids move around these days, it sounded plausible to me that he could have been from NY prior to that.

Evans looking like he can be a real contributor - two stud portal adds at PG and wing + Boswell Evans JP Brown Cade is a very, very nice seven man rotation. Three studs at guard with Boswell and Evans eating all the leftover minutes and that's a top team.

Portal PG (30 MPG)
Portal SG (25 MPG)
Portal SF (25 MPG)
Estrella (30 MPG)
Brown (25 MPG)
---
Boswell (25 MPG) (1-3 guard)
Evans (20 MPG) (1-3+Small 4 guard)
Phillips (20 MPG) (4-5)
---
9th: Henderson
10th: Scott
11th: Washington Jr./Peck (or a 4th big for foul trouble and development)
---
12th: Green
13th: Clark
14th: Walkon
15th: Walkon

Winning doesn't have to be hard!

Yes, Carey would have to radically transform his game to become a different/more effective player. He isn't going to grow, he isn't going to become more athletic. He could shed some weight and become more fit, but his issues (outside of just becoming a deadeye shooter) aren't really fixable. He is what he is.

I'd be happy if he just made 70-75% of his FT's. He has shown he can get to the line, but he's a human empty trip there. He could also stand to learn how to pump fake instead of going straight up and getting it slapped back in his face so often. He may be able to be fixed, but I'm not sure he has the fire and 'want to'.

Potential Portal spots to fill: 3-5
PG
absolutely get 1 true PG...my wish list we'd find 2 and one of them would have size 6'4" or taller

Shooter
just a knock it down outside threat...can be a true SG or a wing guy just someone that if you kick it to them they'll have no hesitation about taking open shots and knocking them down (Dalton/Chaz/Ja'Kobi type)

Big
might address this with the HS guys still pursuing Washington Jr. is 6'9" and Peck is 6'10" but an athletic near 7' big would be a target in the portal...

I expect a few teams in the SEC see folks hit the portal....LSU, OU, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Auburn, Georgia, maybe even Texas... don't know if any of them have coaches fired, but could see players wanting out.

How about a stretch 4 or 5? JP has the potential to be able to step out and knock down a 3, and having another big that can do that will only help the post and hi-low game.

The thing that is so frustrating about this team is that, last offseason, during the roster build, we kept hearing that Barnes had shifted his philosophy. That he understood we need to sacrifice a little (not a ton) of defense to be better on offense. In other words, we were going to get guys who can put the ball in the basket.

Fast forward to now...the defense has made a slight decline. And the offense...this is the worst shooting team I can remember under Barnes. I don't know if the stats bear that out, but the thing is, we have generated tons of open/close-in looks and we can't hit them. Layups. Open bunnies 5 feet in. Open 3's too. The only good 3 point shooter is JG, while BB and NA are solid, but streaky there.

It's not the offensive system. It's the players...they can't shoot. This was supposed to be a team comprised of players who could score under this "philosophy shift."

So honestly, it's hard to trust that next year will be any different. I wish we could go out and get a bunch of guys like the ones on Alabama's typical roster who are elite scorers, then teach them to play defense to Barnes' expectations. But I realize that's a pipe dream.

I think Estrella and Phillips/Brown combo could handle the five next year but we need to be thinking portal at every other position. Need a two guard to combine with Boswell, a starting point guard, a wing to combine with Evans, and a stretch four. We want get all that so the freshman will have to contribute a little.

JMO, but I would be working towards getting quality 2 deep st all 5 positions. I wouldn’t be satisfied with having 3 guys total for the 5 & 4
