scum? it's likely a crit race or a tour race. why the hell does this effect our lives? people are exercising and being healthy.
Honestly the road should be shut down. But police prob thought that people wouldnt be dumb enough to drive through the median like psychopaths.
in what world can anyone justify this jackasses actions?
I’ll tell you guys what…a few weeks ago, the wife and I went down to the Miami area. She was getting along in her pregnancy, and it was probably too late to travel, but with a pile of kids at home, we take any chance we can to get away. We got this sweet little rental car so we could zip around like we’re brits or just regular American folks struggling with midlife.
Sure enough, we’re eating some good food at the treaty restaurant - Ver-Sally’s or something along those lines - and I’ll be damned if her water doesn’t pop.
We pack up the food in to go boxes, and I load her in the car. We hit the highway rushing to the nearest hospital, making good time, wishing we were at home but knowing everything would be good.
Come around a curve where it feels like the road disappears, and next thing you know, there’s a passel of spandex-wearing old folks living out their Tour de France dreams blocking the whole damned highway.
I got nothing against them. Appreciate their leisurely pursuit of their dreams, but I’ve got the love of my life, huffing and puffing in this rental car, issuing all kinds of fluids, and the cleaning bill will be outrageous.
I simply had to make a choice. I hit the median, and politely tapped on my horn along the way, saying “good job guys, way to peddle your way down the road slowly and help people learn how to enjoy themselves on a beautiful afternoon.”
Fortunately, no one was coming through the pedestrian crosswalk, otherwise, the herd of cyclists would have stampeded them, but we made it to the hospital. Mom and baby are good. Thinking I’ll take up cycling with my buddies when I get back home. Maybe start a big wheel group. Hit the road in a herd and teach people how to enjoy the drive.
