I’m on a two year assignment in OKC and we are really enjoying it. Quality of life is much higher, but staying here permanently would result in a pay cut and have retirement implications.

Other options we are considering are South suburbs of Atlanta. Bit of a pay raise but back to the grind.

Suburbs of north Houston. Big pay raise, but housing is reasonable comparatively.

Fort Worth. Moderate pay raise but like the other options I’ll be back to working all the time.

Longmont, CO. We really loved our Colorado trip in October. Winters there worry me as I hate cold weather. Maybe I’d just embrace it with access to winter activities.

I live south of ATL (about 30 minutes). I didn't necessarily want to end up here, we just kind of did.

Newnan and Peachtree City are nice and still growing.

Can't speak to Longmont, CO, but Colorado seems like a really great place to vacation, but not sure I would want to live there.

Lived in Dallas area for a bit. It's busy, but I think parts of Fort Worth would be nice.

Atlanta, Houston, too big for me, but that's personal preference.

Have been to Longmont. Beautiful. Winters are what you make of them. The highway dept is exceptional on clearing the roads. If I life there, I would have a snow blower because I am too old to shovel.
I love the mountains though so I am sure I am willing to overlook some things.

Atlanta and Houston are essentially the same to me.

Lived in Dallas for 4 years. If I moved back to the Metroplex, I would choose Ft Worth.

I like OKC too.

my sister did a stint in Colorado and said the exact same thing. its nice for a tourist or if you are rich as crap and retired. everything is too expensive in the decent sized towns, if you end up somewhere affordable you are giving up on major amenities and options. most people are a-holes there too.

south of atlanta, I am guessing you are looking around Macon and Peachtree City. Macon is filled with wannabe country folks. they have the most exaggerated accents, they are the type to wear cowboy boots and hats and talk about how they were raised in the country, but drive Priuses and have never even been fishing. Don't know much about Peachtree City; but cost of living there isn't close to Atlanta numbers, but you aren't giving up on anything.

@GAVol Is this a fair description of Maconites? My associations there are generally limited to one group of people so I may have just missed the fake cowboys.

That is one of the strangest descriptions of Macon I’ve ever read lol. And I’ve lived down here since the early 80s. Sounds like you took a wrong turn and ended up in Asheville or something.

Considering that its the home of Jason Aldean you might be onto something....

spent about 6/7 months going down there weekly while dating a girl from there. plus however many other trips, and various interactions with Maconites. everyone I ever talked to brought up how country they were, how small town they were, and "this is how southerners talk" while sounding like an extra from some hallmark movie hating on the south.

idk, always felt like they were trying way too hard to be something they weren't.

JC, Kingsport or Bristol, TN?
Son lived in Colorado Springs and other towns around Denver. Loved it.
But if you hate winter probably not for you.
Macon is different. A gazillion pine trees. I told someone there "you talk funny". They replied "you do too".
