Knowles Expected to be DC

This is kinda proving my point of this fan base having the worst memory.

He took over a dumpster fire of a roster and improved the defense each year of his first 4 years.
That's not saying much considering we really could only go up. If you can't see how bad he actually was after watching the debacle this year, there is no help for ya. He couldn't adjust in game at all. He just assumed that we would magically stop Pavia from running without him making a change. How many 3rd and 20's were made by a QB taking off and running for it? It seemed like it happened EVERY game and he STILL didn't plan for it. He was like an ostrich with its head in the ground.

So if Knowles is the hire, who does he retain that is already on our staff? Does he bring any other assitants with him from PSU? I hope he and Garner both give us another 6-7 years before retiring. I personally hope we keep Inge. I think he is a good coach. Yes our LB's were liabilities but I think Perlotte developed well and he has recruited some young studs. He seems to be well liked. I was never a Martinez fan either but he has sort of changed my mind the past 2 years.

Yeah we need to keep Garner/Chop for DLine hopefully. I would like to keep Inge also but thats up to Knowles of course. Inge is smart and a great recruiter. He landed 2 LBs ranked top6 nationally in this 2026 class that should both be NFL players in White and Rouse. Both are top 100 recruits overall and ranked as high as the 50s on 1 service or another. UGA, Bama, OSU etc wanted them badly but Inge brought them to Rocky Top. Linebacker play wasn't great this year, but to me its a personnel issue. They looked much better with the young guys Spillman and Perlotte on the field late season. We have a team captain LB that I won't name here thats a guided missile vs the run...but couldn't cover my Granny on a pass route to save his life. Our LBs will look much better when he isn't on the field next year IMO. Even with losing All SEC Arion Carter in the process. Spillman, the 2 Jadens, White, and Rouse are all very athletic LBs that can cover a lot of ground. White is a bigger body like Arion and a natural ILB/Mike. I wouldn't be surprised if he plays a lot next year like Perlotte did this year at Will LB

Muschamp isnt even the DC now at UGA. Theres not 1 but 2 guys in front of him calling the shots. Hes a "defensive analyst" like the half dozen guys we have on each side of the ball here...that werent allowed on the practice field until the last couple years. We have some of the most batsheit crazy fans on Earth. Lmao...

We are hiring THE most sought after D Coordinator in the nation and we have people on here crying about the meme factory that is Will Muschamp. Cant make this crap up....only on VN. 🤣
Muschamp’s current role is by his own choosing.

Transfer portal opens soon. Doesn't matter if he signed an LOI or not
I’ve heard otherwise while paying attention to Beys’ recruitment. From what I’ve heard, you can only transfer after classes have started. The portal closes before classes start. And there’s no spring portal window anymore. Something like that

See Ive heard the opposite. That legend would be able to transfer regardless so idk. Guess we gotta wait and see.

No, the option isn't "only go up". Stagnate or even get worse were both possible options.

This year was pathetic, but losing two potential first round corners and having the 2nd best CB who was healthy give up on the team led to a lot of that problem. Defense still forced a lot of turnovers and did a great job generating pressure. Only so much can be done when you're starting true freshmen, a guy who gave up and 4th/5th string corners after Hood. Only so much scheming you can do to get around being so awful at such an important position. If even one of McCoy or Gibson were able to play this year, the defense likely ends up much better because then true freshman Redmond can cover the 3rd or 4th receiver instead of the 2nd, etc.

His often refusal to put a spy on QBs annoyed me too, among a few other things, but every coordinator, even the best ones(Banks wasn't among the best IMO, but he was decent) do things that will drive you up a wall. Ask Chiefs fans how frustrated they've been with Andy Reid's play calling. Ask Alabama fans about how Saban's defenses over the last year or two of his tenure just didn't seem to be what they once were. Coaching/scheming/play calling is hard, even for the greatest ones to ever do it, much less a notable step down in a guy like Banks compared to them.

a little too "homoerotic daddy fetish" in my opinion. But we can let it slide on this day of jubilation.
Yeah, back when I could run with the herd, they called me “the mad squirrel“ because once I went hands-on, I immediately went for the head. They said it looked like a squirrel, running up a tree as fast as they could.

But he didn't do any scheming. At least it didn't look like it. The excuses of the DVs being out was legit for the 1st couple games or so, but by mid season, he knew what he had and STILL didn't adjust. So no, I won't give him the benefit of the doubt for the DBs after about the 3rd game.

For ANYONE that does not love this hire...ask yourself when was the last time we hired a DC with this pedigree and experience at the highest level? the answer: N E V E R! We have never hired a DC as well thought of and respected and PROVEN. As @dduncan4163 has repeatedly pointed out...this is a f'ing homerun!
Monte Kiffin was pretty highly respected. He was about 90 years old.
