That’s what I’m worried about with JH..he didn’t really leave himself much to choose from this late in the game..at this point looking at the list I hope it’s Will.this team needs a coach that will light a fire under their ass and Will don’t play.

Heupel - Walters connection:

Oklahoma - in 2012, Heupel was Co-OC and Walters was graduate assistant.

Mizzou - 2016 and 2017, Heupel was OC and Walters was Co-DC

Walters was a Barry Odom disciple. Started on Odom's staff at Memphis then followed him to Pinkel's staff at Mizzou. Was promoted when Odom was named HC. When Odom was fired, Walters was retained as DC at Mizzou under Drink, before going to Illinois where he was a Broyles Award finalist with a Top 3 defense under Bielema.

Failed HC stint at Purdue, then Washington's DC.

Heupel may hire Walters, but if I remember correctly Heupel and Odom are not the best of friends.

Facts? You dismissed defensive statistics and rankings

I didn’t dismiss anything. Heupel stated when he was hired not to judge our DC by yardage bc those numbers would be skewed by the offense that we play. I didn’t agree that we should compare ppg allowed to the entire nation bc it includes teams like James Madison, Air Force, and the Big Ten. The Big Ten dominates top 20 defense points allowed bc scoring is down in that conference. I feel that comparing against other SEC teams is the most appropriate.

It started bc people were saying our defense sucked every year but last season. I didn’t agree bc we’re top 5 in the sec in ppg allowed.
Everyone wanted Durkin but his defenses gave up more points than Banks in 3/5 years. It doesn’t matter anymore as we are moving on. This last season and especially the way we played against Vandy were fireable offenses.

I have talked myself into Walters and would be happy with that choice. The main thing I don’t like about him is that he is a bend but don’t break kind of coach. I sort of wanted someone more aggressive. Winning is the only thing that matters though.
