Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

"Well first of all I'd like to say what a tremendous honor it is to play in the Xbox Bowl. I took a poll the other day and 37% of our team grew up with PlayStations instead of Xboxes so this is going to be a tremendous challenge for us."
But they will be champions of life either way. Rest assured.

If Inge is tapped as DC, would ya’ll be upset?

Not sure how I would feel about that. He’s obviously a great recruiter but honestly I think we need some new blood.

Idk. My full time job doesn’t involve evaluating defensive schemes at the highest level. I’m just a hillbilly with a keyboard. I just hope we can find a guy that can teach a feller how to tackle.
Tackle? Why would you do that when you can fling yourself in the general direction of the ball carrier.

And the hell of it is is that tackling is a required fundamental that should be learned long before coming to college.
It' is one of, if not the most important basic tenant of football.

Okay, so I took my mom to an eye appt earlier, and I was listening to the radio. Can't stand Tyler and Will but I listened anyway and one thing that was said caught my attention, and one thing that was speculated on did to. The speculation, William Inge is probably the next DC. Why? Because it will be hard to hire a DC if he doesn't have freedom to hire his own guys, and they're not convinced Heupel is willing to part with his other defensive guys. I could see that being true. Not saying it is, but it's not a huge stretch. It makes sense.

What was said, in the years Heupel and Banks have been here, supposedly tackle drills were not part of practice. On the one hand, it is hard for me to imagine coaches not going over fundamentals. On the other hand, I've spent enough Saturdays yelling at the TV to know our tackling is atrocious. If it is true, that's not only on Banks, that's on Heupel as HC. HC is responsible for making sure the fundamentals of the game are being taught. I hope it's not true. Surely it can't be. But when you think about our attempts at tackling...... You can't help but wonder.
After seeing on the field play, I 100% believe

I absolutely love Danny White fundraising and expanding the budget like he has. The only issue with that is expectations follow. Can’t have the highest football ticket prices for a 8-4 (4-4) product
Can you tell us what is going on behind the scenes or your evidence he is accepting low expectations?

Request for prayers. As some know, I took a life-changing job in DC that started in September. In October we had our second child. I haven't had any time off and we knew it would be a challenge, but we didn't factor in how difficult this would all be for our oldest daughter (3.5yo).

We knew there would be an adjustment, but she's very obviously dealing with anxiety and probably depression. Multiple times a day she cries because she misses her friends from her old preschool. Multiple times a day she asks to call or facetime her grandparents, aunts, and cousins, something she never asked to do before we moved. While out she will go from being happy and in the moment to panicking and asking for her blanket or to be held.

We know part of that is being a 3yr old learning how to regulate emotions. And her imagination is definitely coming in full swing now. It's just been hard for us to watch and manage especially.

We are trying our best. We call family daily, we do fun things on weekends as often as possible, we are trying to make this Christmas a magical one, she's at a new school now slowly making new friends. Also hoping to start going to church where she's in school to create more of a connection for her and us. We also talked last night and plan to sit down with her and create a very structured schedule to alleviate some of her anxiety and help her and us manage each day. We just need some encouragement, prayers, and support.

And we need the Vols to play a bowl game so she can run around screaming "Woo!" As I sing Rocky Top and celebrate touchdowns.

Thanks y'all.
🙏 Hoping everything works out for that little one. God bless you all.

Don't know anything about Walters. Seems solid as a DC.

2025: (Bold is what is important to me)

Scoring Defense: tied 21st
Total Defense: 20th
Rushing Defense: 17th
Passing Defense: 50th
3rd Down %: 62nd
Sacks: tied 92nd
TOs: tied 77th
Redzone Defense (TD %): 13th

Would need to do the other years to form a true opinion. This is for informational purposes.

Edit: added redzone defense.

Seen lackluster tackling this year in almost every game. Especially Oklahoma. Watching our defense take the field vs. OK defense was eye opening. They looked bigger, meaner and tougher than us and flew to the ball every play and made us pay for yards. Man id kill for a defense like they have.

I don't know, he looks damn good to me.

Missouri 2018-20
- 2019: #14 total defense (312.0 ypg), #17 scoring defense (19.4 ppg), #8 pass defense (179.3 ypg)- Top-20 nationally in multiple categories (e.g., 3rd in SEC total defense)- Developed CB Christian Holmes (12 PBUs, 2 INTs in 2018)
Promoted mid-2017; oversaw SEC-top defenses, contributing to 8-win seasons and bowl bids. Crossed paths with Tennessee HC Josh Heupel (Missouri OC 2016-17).

Illinois 2021-22
- 2021: Improved from #97 (34.9 ppg) to #29 scoring defense; #1 Big Ten passing yds allowed- 2022: #1 scoring defense (12.3 ppg), #2 total defense (263.8 ypg), #1 interceptions (22), #1 takeaways nationally; top-10 in 17 categories- 11 All-Big Ten defenders over 2 years
Epic turnaround: From 114th in total defense (2020) to elite status. Key wins: 9-OT thriller vs. #7 Penn State, first-ever vs. CFP-ranked foe (#20 Minnesota). Produced Bednarik semifinalists Devon Witherspoon and Jer'Zhan Newton.

Washington 2025-present
- #20 yards allowed per game, #21 scoring defense (under 20 ppg)- #20 yards per play allowed- Highest points allowed: 26 (to Oregon)
Hired Jan. 2025 after Purdue firing. Built on 2024 foundation under Jedd Fisch; graded B+ by analysts for first-year stability with "inferior talent." Emerging as candidate for Tennessee DC vacancy (Dec. 2025).
