Walter's has had very average to below average defenses during his career. Has had team defenses ranked 50th, 85th and a few in the 100s.
You sure you're looking up the right guy? lol...context is everything

His Illinois defense was the #1 scoring defense nationally in 2022
They were #114 initially in total defense before he took over, and the next year were #49 (#29 scoring defense).

His Missouri defenses saw the same sort of improvement.

He didn't pan out as Purdue's HC but he can coach a defense.

He looked up only Purdue as head coach and not DC. Dude is a great DC

I know Coach hates the idea of scapegoating coaches since he got screwed over at OU by Stoops...but this is the right move, Banks just totally lost the plot this year for whatever reasons and the fanbase had zero grace left for him...fair or not.

I still don't know how I feel about Banks...there were legitimate reasons for the defense being mediocre, but not for being the worst defense in the league. I agree with everyone that it is unacceptable...I just don't think the guy is garbage like a lot of Vols do...I saw the guy put a top 10 CFB defense on the field with my own eyes...a garbage coach can NOT do that....period.
Goes back to Jimmies' any Joes'

Without them, you're probably toast

Will be shocked if it is a big name
No one should care.

"Big name" typically = retread or the "hot hand".

The same folks that obsess over "big names" never ever wanted Heupel and puked over seeing his hire. They wanted "big names" like Steele, Freeze, even Napier 🤢🤮
