Here is my take on the Bowl Games that no one asked for…

I think either wipe them away or just start putting up NIL money for the players like the basketball tournament we were in did. Anything other than money won’t move the needle enough for the bowls to sustain which makes the expanded playoff more sure and the CFB just becoming the NFL’s minor league like it has been for forever

I get it at this time, but it makes me sad at the same time. I’m old enough when a fan couldn’t wait to see what game we were going to. They were coveted instead of this. I don’t mind getting old for the most part, but this, well, makes me sad and especially for our younger VOL fans. We all saw this coming. It’s just frigging sad.

I loved bowl season. From the early bowls to the NC game, every game was a step up in prestige and it went on for 2 weeks.

ND is afraid they would lose a bowl game and the CFP’s decision would have proven correct. Better to play the martyr.

And then it comes to light that Martyr U has a special privilege decree going into effect starting next year that if they are the 12th team or higher, they alone cannot be bumped to make room for a G5. One of the lowest place teams in a conference will have to be kicked out to make way for Martyr U.

In recent years id agree. They got it right with Chipper, but, Dale deserves to be there with Henry, and Larry Wayne.
I think there is a place in the Hall for Mattingly and Murphy, or at least there should be.

But while they both had incredible zeniths, they just didn’t have the prolonged greatness required to accumulate the top line numbers like the players you referenced.

Still like both of them for the Hall more than Jeff F’n Kent….

💯

They don't have enough teams that are bowl eligible to fill all the bowls.
Great news! Shut the unneeded bowls down this year. If there are more qualifying teams than bowls next year, cut teams from the bottom, and reintroduce competition for and meaning in a bowl invitation. Repeat as many times as necessary.

See if there’s a way to make the networks eat the losses. They’ll stop incentivizing unneeded bowl games. We don’t need bowl games for 5-7 teams. It cheapens the prize.

I hate Alabama and simply disagree. They both had identical 10-2 records in the regular season. Georgia would have beat the crap out of Notre Dame in my opinion. Saying Alabama had 3 losses while Notre Dame had 2 is a little disingenuous. Notre Dame sat on the couch so they couldn’t lose while Bama had to play Georgia in Atlanta . You would lose your ever loving mind if Tennessee got left out of the playoffs after qualifying for the SEC championship because they got beat by the number two seed. Especially if we had beaten that team at their place earlier in the year. Notre Dame got what they deserved for playing a weak schedule and refusing to join a conference. Let’s just move on as I hate both teams. I tend to think if it was all politics and money that Miami would have been left as Notre Dame has a huge advantage in the politics arena. I appreciate your hatred of Alabama. It’s also hard for the committee to justify leaving the team out of the playoffs that finished 2nd in the SEC when you have the teams that finished 3-5 in that conference in the playoffs. It’s never going to be cut and dried as schedules are too unbalanced. I also don’t think Notre Dame would have finished 10-2 if they had Alabama’s schedule. The SEC is just a meat grinder. I think they got it right this year but understand why ND is pissed. Different opinions is what makes the world go round. I want Tennessee to win and be the reason Alabama sits home next year. Go Vols.
The bad loss to FSU and the blowout in the SEC CG are why Bama should have been left out. FSU was terrible this year. Despite that, if the SEC CG had been close instead of a blowout, I could see your point and agree. But it wasn't close. THAT was Bama's playoff game, and they blew it. They made it in because they are Bama, not because they earned it.

Respect your opinion but TOTALLY disagree

i hate Bama with all my heart and the Hearts of my children but, they beat Georgia once at Georgia and if they had not played in CG there would not be any discussion about them not making it.

Unless you want all conference CG to go away, there is no way you can take them out of CFP with them being in before the CG regardless of how bad they looked.
See my previous post. They also lost to a terrible FSU. And they were blown out in the SEC CG. It wasn't close.

[Toledo will] prob hire Jerry Mack before Banks.

Candle’s salary was less than what Banks makes here.
Jerry Mack may go to Tulane. This says he’s the number one want at this point (as he prolly also is at Toledo).

Toledo candidates:

● Jerry Mack: The Kennesaw State coach just led a worst-to-first turnaround in his debut season, turning a two-win team last year into a 10-win Conference USA champion. A Memphis native, the 45-year-old Mack won at the FCS level, too, and has coached in the SEC and NFL, too.

Vince Marrow [deer lort!]: Toledo fans know the name well. An Ohio native who played and later coached at UT [he means “Toledo” 😂] — and even spent a season as the coach at Springfield High — the 57-year-old Marrow might be the ideal CEO for the times. He built his reputation as one of the nation’s recruiters in 12 seasons as associate head coach at Kentucky and is now the general manager at Louisville. He’s made clear he covets the Toledo job.

● Ryan Beard: The 36-year-old Missouri State coach is widely viewed as a rising star and just led the Bears to seven wins in their first season at the FBS level.

Mike Jacobs: All the 46-year-old Mercer coach does is win. A Maumee native and former Ohio State offensive lineman, he is 94-23 in 10 seasons at the Division II and FCS level.

Jim Harding: Another Maumee native, the 2001 Toledo grad is in his 12th season at Utah, where he’s regarded among the best offensive line coaches in the country.

● Tim Banks: The 53-year-old Tennessee defensive coordinator has strong MAC ties. Banks, a Detroit native, played at Ball State and coached at Bowling Green and Central Michigan.

I just think it’s easier to look better when you don’t play very many tough games. I also think Notre Dame is the most entitled team in college football. Alabama is privileged also. I hope Oklahoma beats them but I don’t think they will.
Bama being picked over ND with the losses Bama has suggests Bama is the more entitled team.

He’ll probably play Merk for 3 quarters
If he did, it would be to help him find a good landing spot in the portal. The bowl games are pointless at this point anyway and have lost their luster. Why not help our guys going into the portal? Merk deserves that having stuck here for so long.
