From a legal standpoint, it's a penalty.

Depending on the language, It's doubtful UGA wins anything here (certainly not 390k,). I doubt they expect to win. It's mostly meant to be a detergent to keep other players from doing it.

I wonder though how this is viewed in recruiting for other prospects? Does Georgia suffer for it (all for it)? I don’t see TN ever doing this. Can you imagine to uproar the media would have made if we sued Nico?

It may be a signal that the Tide is turning. I know we’re in the Era of big money and freedom for the players, and I hate pulling for Georgia in anything, but All the SEC schools have a lot to Gain if they win this one. Personally, I’ll throw up a Cheer if they do.

I think the handshake money is still there although at a smaller scale.

This is why they need to recognize players as employees at this point. These are employment deals and NIL is “name image and likeness” in name only (pun intended), the NIL is really pay to play. The NCAA trying to pretend it is not pay to play has crated this insanity where contracts are not enforceable.
