Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

@Go Fight Win @Stoerner Fumbles y'all hearing any smoke on Brendan Sorsby from the UT perspective. I know he will be a high ticket item but with him only having 1 year left and his family living in Knoxville it just makes too much sense. Also seems to fit the offense very well.

At what point do we start losing goodwill by not playing these highly regarded recruits? I agree with getting a veteran backup QB, but if I'm GMac, I'm not sitting a second year in this current environment waiting my turn.

Can't be excited about recruiting well if we continually over recruit them in the portal right?

They're being paid too much to be unhappy anyway. You want on the field win the competition outright.

The old "they might transfer" is out the door in this new era. You're making money playing or not, if you wanna make more money you get on the field and earn it. If ya hit the portal without playing any, good luck getting paid more and you're still going to have to go win a starting job at any P4 school.

I think what Heupel decides to do in the portal at QB will say a lot about how confident he is in GMac. If he pursues one of the top QBs, then he thinks he needs a starter from the portal. If it's an unheralded older guy, then he's looking for an experienced depth guy...which I think would be a really good sign. Hopefully GMac has done enough in practice for Heupel to want to roll with him and Brandon competing with a transfer 3rd team guy.

Depends on if the coaches think GMac is ready or not. And if he’s not then you tell him that. But rolling with GMac just for the reason of not losing goodwill won’t work. Going 8-4 or 7-5 when you could’ve won 10 games with the right QB for that year. Point to Ty Simpson as an example and how that’s worked for him.

I don't think he wants to ride with a redshirt freshman and true freshman QB against our schedule next year.
