'26 MA DL Carter Gooden (Tennessee)

Sure sounds like between Gooden, Finch, Carter and Thomas we are bound to get a couple of booms on the DL.

If we can hang on to everyone committed and add 2-3 of those guys that's an A+ job by the staff this cycle. Anything else (Amari Latimer, G'Nivre Carr, etc.) would just be a cherry on top.
fine and all but need porthole help

Adding Gooden and Thomas would be pretty sweet. Would put us at 292.88. Adding Finch would put us at 293.77. All d linemen, and would give us our highest ranked class (and only 26 commits) since 2005

we will set the purge, then gonzo porthole.

may have mentioned that a time or two
Any scholarship players who don't look like future contributors need to be pushed toward the portal. Best for both sides.

High school recruiting, More DL and a quality RB would be nice additions to this class. Would love some highly rated secondary options, but we all know that's not going to happen.

Biggest portal needs are some starters for our secondary and some DL depth. The more talented the better. We'll see who chooses to leave before gauging other needs. We know defense needs to be addressed.

The real biggest need of this offseason is a new DC.

Like loading up on young talent but we need 2-3 DT’s from the portal.
I think those aren’t mutually exclusive. Plan seems to be backfill the non-seniors who are leaving because they aren’t good enough (Lindstrom, Wallace) with more high school studs (get more talented) and then hit the portal for experienced ballers to backfill the seniors who are good players.

Early in the weekend, it was unclear how aggressively Tennessee would push. That clarity came quickly. While we still give the Vols a stronger shot with Finch, Tennessee is deeper in the Gooden race than expected, and this one bears close watching. Gooden is considering UCLA, Vanderbilt, and Tennessee going into his decision.

we'll see

It's more the randomness of the locales.

Virginia, ND, and Michigan are significantly closer and are elite educational schools with much better football programs than Vandy or UCLA (despite Vandy's 10 win season this year).

And of course there is Boston College. And obviously UCLA just hiring a new coach days ago seems like a weird fit.

Jordan Carter, goodsen carter, and flipping the Bama commit is a pretty wild signing day.
Would give us 10 DL commits this cycle. I know that's a spot where we really lacked depth this year and are losing a bunch of upperclassmen but that's a lot at one position.

Hope the staff still plans to add a couple veterans in the portal. Can't have an SEC DL that is made up of almost all freshman and sophomores.

That’s a great question. I love that they are getting so many DT bodies with athleticism from HS, but that is one position where those guys can’t really you until year 2 or 3.

I can’t answer your question because they should have gotten portal DTs last year. But…they didn’t. So it stands to reason that they would do it again even though the 8-4 season is strongly tied to our soft interior defense.

Surely they learned their lesson.

This kid’s running mate- Marcus Almada- is also committed to UCLA. Both are the starting DTs for Tabor Academy.

# 1 Player in Massachusetts

We haven’t shown him enough love.
