What are you doing right now?

If Nico wanted to play with our OL and WR he could have stayed his ass in Knoxville, gotten paid double what he was to win 3 games out west.

Nico left because his daddy got his feelings hurt. Nothing else to it. And the only thing that was going to hurt Nico's draft stock was exactly what happened to him. You can't make demands for more money, then pack up and leave only to have far worse results outside the system you claim is holding you back. Even if he had returned and put up the numbers he did at UCLA here the team would've won more than 3 games.

The issue is the defense finally seemed to get it together and carried us last year. The other this year is that it just flipped back to awful and didn't improve. In fact the same mistakes we saw late were mistakes we'd made all season.

We thought the season would go this way because we brought in a QB late out of necessity, but it turned he was an upgrade. The defense was hung to take a step back, but this group didn't improve, and that's perplexing. I've heard a couple of people since Saturday comment on the play calling defensively. Situational calls, putting young players at disadvantage unnecessarily. Blitzing to the point it becomes predictable and lack of in game adjustments.

The defense, you just have to move on at this point. Not to mention he's about to lose his best, if not I've if his best assets in Garner. It's just time

Sounds like we may add a couple more but most of what I heard was pre Vandy meltdown.

I am PERSONALLY in the viewpoint of that we have enough incoming freshmen, and I'd rather focus on getting older in the portal and flushing out any players we don't think can be top end contributors that are in their 1st or second season on the team currently.

But I don't make the calls so we will see how it all comes together.

Smyrna was screaming Boo should be starting and playing every snap half the season then shut up quick when it was obvious WHY Boo wasn't starting and why he was earning less snaps.

Boo is a better player than McMurray. Period. His attitude kept him on the bench and it should have. I said play Joey over Gmac. I said okay perlotte and Harmon over Telander. I was right. And I know people who watch some practices every year. Name another backup I wanted to play? Never said anything about DL or DB other than Boo. And nothing about the offense other than Davis over kit. And Davis is Better than Kit. So maybe listen to me and not post like I was wrong?

lol If the argument is Nico would have been better at TN this year than he was at UCLA you're 100% right and that's why so many people were baffled that he packed up to bail.

If your argument is Joey Halzle held Nico back, I disagree. Not just because of what Joey Aguilar did but because of what Nico did at UCLA. Bailing to run after the first read is covered isn't a play calling issue, neither is overthrowing deep balls or holding the ball too long and taking sacks. Those things are Nico problems and no offense or OC will fix those if he doesn't change himself first.

Those guys earn it in practice.

What annoys me is the "this guy who hasn't played a meaningful down is significantly better than the starter who's been here for 3 years" argument.

Or seeing Perlotte play well and complain that he wasn't playing sooner. He wasn't playing sooner because he clearly still had the Xs and Os to figure out.

The talent of the young guys isn't the problem, its how long it takes them to 1. Learn the game/scheme and/or 2. Have a body that's physically ready to handle this level.

Are we not expecting Daevon Hobbs back? I agree with the overall sentiment and really hope that is the case of what we do.

CJH has 100% been more impressive at Tennessee considering what he inherited. Kiffin has been living entirely off the portal. While CJH certainly benefitted from the portal too, we are not big spenders in the portal like OM has been. OM has been finishing with a top 5 portal class every year since NIL started. The highest we have finished in portal rankings is 26th.

And I would argue, we did a much better job at developing those portal players (ONL, Brazzell, Hood, J. McCoy, Heard, Moe, Kitselman, Campbell, etc.)

The 2 games that have me most worried about this season and moving forward.

Arkansas (after a bye with them having a new HC)
Vandy to end the year in Neyland with a ranked win

But also some positive games

Georgia (we didn't win, but Heupel & offense lit up Kirby)
at Florida (the most complete game we played all year, seemed the focus was there at every level that was an example of how good the team could have been)

I'd like to stay optimistic, but unfortunately with all the changes having young talent that develops is never a guarantee anymore...so being one of the youngest teams in the SEC and finishing 8-4 isn't quite as easy to spin as it would have been in years past. Hope we get a good bowl game and a matchup where we can show out.

Basketball season in full swing now!
