Suggested coaching changes

Forcing coordinators and assistants on a head coach isn’t a recipe for success.

I’m as let down as everyone else by this season’s disappointing outcomes, but I’m still a Heupel fan. He still has some mountains to climb, but I like ‘em. Can’t help it after putting up with Pruitt, Dooley, and Jones … and after getting screwed-over by Kiffin.

Meh. Looking forward to next year.

He was the OC for Ryan Day last year. Regardless, he is an experienced guy that can be a good voice in the ear for Heupel.
Kelly needs to understand that he is a college guy and not an NFL guy. There is nothing wrong with that. I would have zero issue with hiring him as an OC. But we all know it will never happen.

have his offensive players more focused on winning each play vs trying to win the game each play…the way we used the short passes mixed in with the runs vs Florida in the first half was a thing of beauty and led to a 31 point half…tonight we were 1-4 on long throws…yea, we got 1 TD but we also stopped our own drives twice…twice we went three and out in large part because we wasted a down a very low percentage long ball…
Bam. Hammer, meet nail. I’ve said many times over. Those long balls come at the worst times. 2nd and 10, Aguilar launches a scud missile. Incomplete. It puts us in a bad spot to make the 1st down. The drive stalls, punt.

Too many times Aguilar tries to make a big play instead of taking advantage of what the defense is relinquishing. Nico was a victim of the same mindset.

Here's the deal on Chip, he's a guy who expects to be in control..... period. His personality is a bit abrasive, as for recruiting, I personally don't think he likes it, that's why he likes going to the NFL. Now I will tell you, he's got an exceptional mind when it comes to making changes during a game. When he was at Oregon we knew we had the game won if it was tied at the half. He's amazing at game time adjustments. I really don't know where he fits in football at any level, he's just too bull headed to be an assistant and too bull headed to be a head coach. Go figure.

I’m of the opinion that Heupel struggles with managing clock because he’s focused on the play calls, which causes him to lose sight of the big picture at times

This. And bottom line, if as the head coach you don’t trust your offensive coordinator to call good plays…find a new one. Almost seems like common sense.

My opinion is that we’ve likely seen Heupel’s best season and only playoff appearance. But it seems like coaching changes are a complete gamble now (if you aren’t willing or able to pay the most ever). It’s just dumb luck trying to catch lightning in a bottle.
