Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

That Purdue bowl game where PI & Defensive holding was allowed every pass play was pretty damn annoying.

Why our DL gets held without calls is baffling too.
The amount of times our DL gets held and it not called is crazy.

On one of Pavia's big runs, their center held our DT until Pavia was gone and didnt call anything. I think it was the drive right before half.

Crashing out hard tonight
Maybe, but it is true that our inability to defend Neyland is troubling. That’s the sign of programs beginning to take on water.

I think Heup will get it corrected. But there are affirmative steps that need to be taken.

I’ve watched football for a while. It’s been bad forever, and I’ve said so. This was the same crew that called OPI against Brazzell against MSU. I was at that game, and it was almost a game-changing call. The line at this level is razor thin. So many close games and situations. I’ve also stated it in many wins. If you don’t think the conference/networks want certain outcomes, then more power to you. The Vandy OL couldn’t really block our DL much without grabbing or turning them. Just break it down and watch. Don’t just watch the ball.

There were 4 egregious (being conservative) non calls on holds on top of the others (also the roughing call on Pavia v. non call on Joey). These are all subjective calls on huge plays. A false start can’t be subjective. It’s literally a billion dollar business.

A wise man once said that being indifferent is worse than the crime itself. People are free to think what they want. Now, comparing me to a spoiled child? Gold. I like this place to be an outlet for the real world, but it’s kind of gotten insufferable at times. Ready to take another few weeks off. Hope everyone has a great holiday season.
I agree with taking a few weeks off. I saw the time run out before the Vandy ball was snapped three times. No call-- announcers never acknowledged it.

multiple Things lead to this.

injuries piled up
regressed in the running game
regressed in OL and DL lines
Weak D coordinator. Our biggest weakness on D this year is a passing qb and a running qb. Vandy has both.

They say a team is a reflection of their coach. Well this team is soft. Heupel needs to do something about that.
heupel is soft. people have stated all year he needs to yell at the refs and show some fire instead of staring at the jumbotron squinting saying wtf. he needs to watch what kirby (who i despise) does. hell kirby changed the refs call and changed the outcome of the auburn game.

yes heup is soft and the team reflects his attitude.

Thing about Banks is he makes too much money. The smaller schools that would be interested won't pay what he makes here. The larger schools that need a DC and could pay that much, won't hire him. We have a conundrum.
I was thinking about this earlier. If he's here until he leaves for another opportunity it will get Heupel fired unless he lets him go.

The idea that every stadium except ours is full of loud poor rednecks is not true. Also, scalpers are what drove the price up - be mad at them. Neyland was very loud all season, the defense just takes the air out of the stadium every game.

Welp guys, it's been a fun season. I'll be back in the spring to explain to our toothless fans why a football team that's 50% freshman was never going to make the playoffs and how the NCAA sanctions are still impacting recruiting today.

Thanks for the good times, but I've gotta go study for finals. Happy holidays and go vols
Well this post tells me more than any of your others.

You studying for finals , so you must be young. That’s why you think you know more than All us that have been watching CF 30 years longer than you’ve been alive.

Can’t wait till spring so you can splain sum mo football to us.
Start by splain in , why in the day and age of NIL and wide open Portal transfers we have a 50% freshman roster.

Heup definitely needs to make changes this offseason. I personally think he's done everything the right way up to this point.

Martinez has shown himself worthy of keeping. He's put 1st rounders on the field and developed Gibson and now Redmond.

I like the LB coach. LBs improved when Inge arrived.

Garner as always is top notch.

Banks improved every year until this year. Lost a lot of talent and dealt with injuries but this is what finally put finally put me out on him:
1. The defense did not improve as the season progressed.
2. The play calling remained predictable.
3. Teams regularly produced more offense in the second half of games, meaning they figured us out in the 1st and we didn't adjust.
4. The weakest group is the safeties and that's his position. We haven't recruited or developed that position well at all.

So, yes, Banks needs to move on. Encourage him to take another job then make a splash hire. Try to retain as much of that defensive staff as you can imo. You simply aren't going to get better than Garner and Inge was high demand when we snagged him.

no conundrum: hey banks- you lost to vandy. clear out your office. you are fired.

that easy.

Heupel needs to look for a “iron sharpens iron” DC.

He should be trying to stop your offense & you to score on his defense. Let it be intense and competitive. Don’t script a damn thing when practicing head to head. The players should be treating those like real games where calls are made on the fly.

I read on the Looney Tune thread that CJH seemed a little off in the press conference. Making tough decisions are hard to make but if he doesn't make some before too long somebody may be making them for him in a year or so the way things are in college sports now. Too much money for everything, players and coaches and expectations only go up with the price.

Banks’ defensive style doesn’t complement our offense.
What is his style exactly, genuinely asking? Are we man to man, zone? Are we attacking? Or do we just sit on our heels and whiff on tackles. Half the time it looks like one corner is in man while the other is on zone. And the safeties just take up space, and don’t do a good job at that. I’ve been genuinely confused by what would you label a Tim Banks defense.

I certainly hope not. That's why I want Banks gone. Banks is going to get him fired. Said it 3 years ago, still believe it today.
He reminds me of a dumb QB. He knows the plays and does good things sometimes, but then does some of the dumbest 💩 possible. It's like he can't think when the lights come on. Completely crashes out when the pressure cooker starts whistling.

I don't understand why we didn't have perlotte glued to Pavia's hip all game long.

I remember being so disgusted with him when we gave up a 3rd & Mountain City with AC and his double turf toe 25yds deep in coverage.
