Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

W
Welp guys, it's been a fun season. I'll be back in the spring to explain to our toothless fans why a football team that's 50% freshman was never going to make the playoffs and how the NCAA sanctions are still impacting recruiting today.

Thanks for the good times, but I've gotta go study for finals. Happy holidays and go vols

Why leave
I have all my teeth
DC sucks
That’s all

Hope he can handle the hot seat then lol
He keepers this staff it’s gonna be loud and unenjoyable and honestly if the staff stays I don’t think I have much excitement for next season
This is where I’m at. How Heupel deals with the coaching roster this offseason will tell me how much next season I’m watching. My fan level has dropped significantly.

Thing about Banks is he makes too much money. The smaller schools that would be interested won't pay what he makes here. The larger schools that need a DC and could pay that much, won't hire him. We have a conundrum.
Sounds like his agent is making excuses again…

We're gonna Mullen him aren't we?
Gosh I hope not, he can win big here. He's just got to make some tough decisions on defense and find the aggressive killer Heupel again. Our offense is so awesome when its humming. I love the guy and hope he never coaches anywhere else.

I agree but would also add we need some new creative plays. It’s so predictable.

And if we slow down the tempo so the defense can get set and adjust we lose all kinds of advantages. I just don’t get the regression.

Let’s go fast again and get creative.

I can almost call 80% of the plays before they snap the ball and if I can do it I know the other team in the press box can do it.

Been a worry of mine with Heupel since we hired him. If there isn’t tempo can he move the ball?

Well last 2 seasons he’s shown he can, but I also think more play variety would be a big benefit. Can help take pressure off perfect execution to be successful.

I do think a real OC would be nice, but have just accepted Heupel is never going to hand over play calling fully

On top of everything else, this is also an issue.

I get why people think this, but I disagree. Noise level is dependent upon a team's performance. This defense was deflating to watch. Arkansas was a good environment until the defense went to crap and a nervous hush fell over the stadium. Georgia was as good of an environment as you could ever dream of having, even when the defense was garbage.

I do hate that the big $$$ folks who sit with their legs crossed reading their Kindles all game get premium lower deck seats. That alone isn't why the environment might have fallen off as the season progressed, though. In fact, I see it as a very minor part of that equation. The team has to give people something to get crazy about imo. Asking people to get loud and lose their Monday morning conference call voice when they know they're about to get disappointed is like asking someone to excitedly go to a restaurant that has tough, rubbery $80 steaks.

If we have to start the 5th new quarterback in a row next season then it will be another rough year.

If JA can come back then we have a shot. Get some dudes. Get a new defensive coaching staff and go to work.

If it’s a new QB it’s going to be rough. But pair him with a new OC and DC and build for year two of starting the same QB.
Ask Indiana how rough it is with a new QB. Go big and get a stud at the position. Then move forward with your 5 star.

I never really thought it was our penalties, as much as not calling things that should be called. Kinda like i'll teach you a lesson.

That Purdue bowl game where PI & Defensive holding was allowed every pass play was pretty damn annoying.

Why our DL gets held without calls is baffling too.

What about them? No SEC championships. No SEC championship appearances. 0-3 vs Georgia etc etc. is that the expectation? Surly not considering the ticket prices, talent fees and the football budget

First 10 win seasons in 15+ seasons, broke the Bama streak, broke the swamp streak, 5 straight seasons of .500 or better in conference play (hadn’t been done in 20 years), high flying offenses, Biletnikoff winner, etc etc.

Was your expectation to become a 10 win team every year? Can you name the HCs in CFB that do that?

Thing about Banks is he makes too much money. The smaller schools that would be interested won't pay what he makes here. The larger schools that need a DC and could pay that much, won't hire him. We have a conundrum.
Easy fix, we could make him apply for unemployment........

Does that make them better?

I’m not going to debate it either but I’ll ask 2 questions for you to consider.

How Many power 5 schools would hire either one right now?

How many believe they are even average power 5 Coordinators?
I really don't want to debate this but you're also setting yourself up which leads me to believe a response would promote better self-reflection. I mean, I can name a bunch of SEC teams right now who would love to have Halze. Probably Tim Banks too. Do you think Kane Wommack is a better defensive coordinator than Tim Banks? I don't. And I'm not biased. It seems bias seems to be coloring people's opinions to think all our coaches are bums and no one else would want them. I assure you that if that were true, we would get better coordinators. It's not logical it is given the last bit of information I gave to which this appeared to be your attempt at a rebuttal. Again. I am not trying to make myself look good. I am just trying to get you to get out of your feels after a really tough loss and think about this with your head instead of your heart.
