Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Heupel is losing fan confidence. If he keeps Banks, that will only worsen. It will be seen as he's good with the status quo. If he gets a new, respected DC, his leash immediately becomes longer.

Ideally he would get a proven stud coordinator, but just making a change helps his cause even if he does have to fall back to a backup candidate. It truly would be the definition of insanity to glue himself and his future here to Tim Banks.

On top of everything else, this is also an issue.

The idea that every stadium except ours is full of loud poor rednecks is not true. Also, scalpers are what drove the price up - be mad at them. Neyland was very loud all season, the defense just takes the air out of the stadium every game.

There is no excuse to losing to vandy. I’m worried it’s the beginning of the end. Hopefully not
After today it kinda makes you want to rethink this Stars thing in recruiting, maybe just find people that are players and not looking for a check. Then again Stars do count but you still have to put them in position to win.

This, why isnt he the go for broke, balls to the wall guy anymore.

IMO the conference said something to him about the tempo, remember how upset refs used to get, and how they couldnt keep up and were constantly stopping play to move the chains.
I always figured that some of our penalties on offense were due to the refs wanting to slow us down.

Nissan Stadium is the same way. Titans suck for sure, but it’s the lamest homefield you’ve ever seen. Might as well be a neutral site NFL game like those in Ireland, Mexico, and Germany.

That will improve with the new stadium imo, contingent upon the team not being dirty butt of course. Nissan Stadium's architecture doesn't trap noise the way the new stadium will in my not so expertly opinion.

Banks defensive style doesn’t complement any program. 600 yards of offense to Vandy.
Well, they didn’t do anything well this year. What I’m talking about is the “bend, don’t break” philosophy. We’d be better off selling out for 3-6 and outs and being ok giving up a quick score every now and again.

I will say, personally OL was better than expected this year. They got a bit snake bit to end the year with injuries…but considering we only returned 1 starter & brought in 3 first year bodies they did well most the year.

We shouldn’t need to bring in OL portal players every offseason, but may just be how this new era is. I’d love to see that entire group return, another year together and they could look elite next season.

RB, need to see better recruitment there, this offense should be attracting 4/5 stars easily.

WR, Pope off the hot seat with how they’ve played this year & how he’s recruiting.

TE great recruiting…I think scheme doesn’t utilize them enough passing the ball.

Defense, I’d honestly be fine with a brand new DC & he brings an entire staff if he wants.
I agree but would also add we need some new creative plays. It’s so predictable.

And if we slow down the tempo so the defense can get set and adjust we lose all kinds of advantages. I just don’t get the regression.

Let’s go fast again and get creative.

I can almost call 80% of the plays before they snap the ball and if I can do it I know the other team in the press box can do it.

I'm not going to debate this, but I will simply point out that both the last two coordinators Josh Heupel hired made Broyles Award short-lists.
Does that make them better?

I’m not going to debate it either but I’ll ask 2 questions for you to consider.

How Many power 5 schools would hire either one right now?

How many believe they are even average power 5 Coordinators?

Was at the game, stayed until the zeros on the clock. Crowd was great. Its unreal when you can see the entire field, how bad the defense is. Its one of the worst we've had. Guys running wide open, vandy's offense having their way with us. It was clear we were out classed and coached. Idc what your recruiting rankings say. We got dominated in the 2nd half.

and another thing, our aussie punter didnt run, one time!
We didn’t attempt 1 fake punt. Not one onside kick, didn’t block a punt or fg. Barely went for it on 4th down. Never attacked with under 2 minutes in the half. I have no idea what’s wrong with Heup and gambling but he needs to grow a pair.
