Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I didn't mean to compare you to a spoiled child. That's my bad. They missed some calls, like they always do but we got away with some things also, we just don't tend to notice them. I've seen games where I felt like we got screwed but to me we just got physically whipped in this game. The roughing the passer call was borderline but we still had the chance to hold them to a field goal if our defense wasn't putrid. Good teams overcome bad call is all I'm saying and we simply aren't good this year, especially on defense. I just don't think the SEC suddenly favors Vanderbilt versus us. Anyway I hope you have a great holiday season as well as nobody like seeing us get destroyed in Neyland by Vanderbilt. Again, sorry for the spoiled child comment.
I actually thought this was the worst I’ve seen in a bit. Watch their short TD run and watch several of Pavia’s long runs. One hold was by a WR. The roughing call at the end of the first half was obviously a killer. The SEC looks at the position at the time of the game. Normally, Vandy is done by now.

Terrible. Inge unit is horrid. Why would we want him to handle our defense? He needs to go

Inge and Banks both have to go. I honestly think some of our defensive ends not containing issues are related to them trying to make a play knowing that neither the linebackers nor the safeties will be there to make one. Safeties truly have talent shortcomings, but there is talent in that linebacker room. They severely underperformed this season.

If, in fact, what is holding Josh back from making staff changes is his experience being fired from Oklahoma, he’s got to get over that.

Josh, what made your termination at Oklahoma an unjust travesty is that you were doing your job well, but were fired by your alma mater and former head coach as a sacrifice so Stoops could keep his underperforming brother on staff.

You replacing some staff members here for not doing their jobs well is not the equivalent of that. It won’t make you a hypocrite; it won’t make you a bad or disloyal guy; it will make you a responsible steward of the program you were hired to lead.

I would be ok, not thrilled, with giving him a chance with the young talent we have and the guys we got coming in but like I said earlier I would much rather we go and hire a real DC.

You are right though Smyrna, his unit has been horrible, but how much of that is Banks scheme and his lack of aggressiveness and how much of it is Inge. I don't know. One thing I do know is Banks has to go if we expect to compete for championships because we will not as long as he is here.
I feel like our linebackers have been asked to do too much this season with safety play being so bad and us being surprisingly weak at DT. They've been in a no-win situation. I will say that Inge has done a great job recruiting and I think the linebacker room is in good shape. I would like to see him, Chop, and Garner stick around.

Head coach has to have thick skin and a backbone that allows him to make changes when it benefits the team. I've tried to defend Banks because of last season, but more and more, last season seems like an aberration. Defense has sucked ass more often than not. Time for some changes on that side of the ball. And if Heupel can't make those changes, then he's probably not the man for the job. He gets paid millions to fix this ****. Now he needs to fix this ****.

Joey has peaked. His arm isn’t strong and gives you decent but not spectacular QB play. As the season went along, he started to fizzle out. Grateful for what he did this year, but give that 2 mil to some other QB looking for a change of scenery.

Thankful for all Joey has done for us this season which is nothing short of remarkable but he has hit his ceiling. The Vandy DC knew Joey can’t play with pressure in his face so he kept sending the house. Also looking around college football it is such an asset to have a QB with legs. Wouldn’t mind having a QB who can improvise and make plays on his own versus just managing the game within the system.

All that being said Joey was a huge upgrade over Nico.

If we have to start the 5th new quarterback in a row next season then it will be another rough year.

If JA can come back then we have a shot. Get some dudes. Get a new defensive coaching staff and go to work.

If it’s a new QB it’s going to be rough. But pair him with a new OC and DC and build for year two of starting the same QB.

I'm hoping Heupel has the nards to make some changes on defense, but no way does he replace Halzle or change his offense in any way.
