Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Fair or not, until he wins a NC he’ll be the funny coach on twitter and that’s it.

Yes tons of HCs have a huge ego. They all don’t desperately try to stay in the news cycle by incessantly trolling on twitter.
No, but are you trying to tell me that Kirby Smart is immune to theatrics? He seems to say and do a lot of things that serve no other purpose. I'm not defending Lane Kiffin. He continues to make a lot of choices I personally would not, I just wonder if these particular criticisms are completely fair. Lane knows he is a character. He's sort of crafted that character himself. And no matter what you think of that character positiive or negative, at least at this point we know he's not going to drop the bit.

Supposedly not money or resources but his family doesn’t like it there + how negative it gets when they’re not dominating everyone
I lived in the Birmingham area for a year and the place is a cesspool of absolute crazy. You simply can’t believe it unless you experience it. It’s literally all they care about 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. I had a neighbor that wouldn’t talk to me after he learned I was a UT grad. Obviously it’s not everyone who lives there but many, many of them are literally unhinged if they lose one game. I can’t imagine a worse place to coach. McGill thinks our fans are bad but we can’t hold a candle to the stupid tater diggers. Lord I hate Alabama.

It's a great sign that you knew immediately who to thank, my brother. This is always great perspective for all of us. I have complete faith that God will see you and your daughter through it, and somehow all of you will be better for it one day. Maybe it will just be spiritually, but that's all that matters anyway. God bless you and her. I know you will be blessed.
God would be our rock if she had not been in an accident or if the worst had happened. He knew us before He formed us in our mother's wombs. His love for us is beyond fathoming. I am grateful He has more for my daughter to accomplish here before He calls her home. I am grateful to have the honor of being her earthly father and help her know her Heavenly Father better.

Kirby Smart has 2 NCs.

Again…. Fair or not, the narrative changes when you win titles.

As of now Kiffin is a good coach that can’t stand to not be talked about constantly.

Sure but wouldn’t be the first time someone signed up for something without truly understanding what they were getting themselves into (or getting their family into). Dude has prob had inbred bama fans issuing threats the last 2 years.

Now if he wins the iron bowl and goes to the playoff, I’d guess any talk about him to PSU disappears like it never happened.
Your theory is that Alabama fans are more likely than PSU fans to, I guess, harass a coach who doesn't win at the level they expect? That could be true. I don't know that it is and I don't know that it isn't either. I just don't know if it's enough to pry you away from a job you get 63 million guaranteed no matter how bad a job you do unless maybe they guarantee it to him upfront? I don't know contracts or anything. Maybe there's a way to draw it up where you promise him a bigger buyout than that or you give him more guarantees to receive the full buyout than Alabama is giving him. Maybe that makes the difference? I just don't know why it would. Seems to uproot your family after just doing so so soon, you'd need a better excuse to sell them.

Or maybe his family truly isn’t happy there? Lots of variables.

His kid has been reportedly telling his teammates he isn't leaving. I wouldn't know, I wouldn't ever be in a position to know, but it's plausible he would want his teammates to know if he was staying and it's also plausible one or more talked about it to someone else. Also Chris Low has a super close relationship with Lane Kiffin and says he's staying at Ole Miss.

Hadn’t seen where Low said anything about Kiffin’s future but if he says he’s staying maybe he really is. I guessed LSU

It was reported on an On3 graphic I saw where someone on peyote predicted him to the Titans. I'm actually totally okay with that. I'm glad Shannon Terry lets his employees explore psychedelics.

Trust me Alabama and their fans are in a class all by themselves. You simply can’t believe it unless you live there. It’s actually indescribable. I found another job and got the heck out of there. Unless you are Saban being a coach there would be miserable, especially for your family. I would take less elsewhere to not put my family through it.

So happy we get to sit back and watch and not have to actually care lol.

Happy Thanksgiving!
I would probably care way more if it was us, but I'd probably enjoy it much less however it ended up. And the best is yet to come. If what some think is right and Kiffin's setting up some sort of a long troll on UF and LSU, the reaction, especially from those fans, will be epic. We really need someone to capture the moment if it comes to pass. I think LSU fans will be less disappointed but still mad. I think Ole Miss would be the least disappointed if they didn't end up with Kiffin because they are more comfortable with their back up options.

OU and Bama would be over us, I assume. Imo we really needed teams that beat us, like OU/Bama, to reach 4 losses. Ole Miss to reach 3.

It was a 1 in a 100 shot after we dropped to Ou, more like 1 in a 1000 now.

Damn shame, our season hinged on 3 plays essentially. If even McCoy played a couple of those, I 100% think we'd be in.
Or if OU and Bama each lose by 100 and their QB's get hurt we'd get in.

Alabama has always been more insane than other fanbases. It is made worse by being the coach that followed Nick Saban. He doesn’t have ties to the south and will get paid similar at Penn State.

I have this Aunt and she lives in Alabama. She has most of my life. She used to troll me. She would be like, "I'm your aunt. And I live in Alabama. You don't like them. Ha ha."

And I'm like, I love you Aunt Gertrude, but YOU have to live in Alabama. I don't. I'm fine.

I grew up, like everyone I assume, hearing stories about Bear Bryant sacrificing babies to dark forces in exchange for Alabama football success and I absolutely never believed any of that until Nick Saban started doing it.

College football fans have such a tendency to read a report from a reporter and interpret it differently than it was actually stated. I see it on here all the time. Someone will mention the way they perceive something Austin says on a podcast and if you go and listen to what Austin said, he didn't predict doom, this guy heard what Austin said, predicted doom and reported it as Austin predicting doom.

Neal McCready, the Ole Miss guy following this coaching stuff said today timing wouldn't work out with Ole Miss and Jon Sumrall. He never followed that up. He didn't say, "Jon Sumrall is taking the Florida job over the Ole MIss job. Lane to LSU." He said that the timing isn't going to work out, suggesting as some have, Florida is way closer to a deal with Sumrall then they are telling their fans.
